A Canadian professor has recorded two hour-long You Tube lectures criticising his university¡¯s policy on ¡°political correctness¡± and objecting to government legislation that would prohibit discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression.

Jordan Peterson, professor of psychology at 바카라사이트 University of Toronto, hit out at 바카라사이트 institution¡¯s new policy to make anti-racism and anti-bias training mandatory among human resources (HR) staff, stating that it amounts to ¡°political training¡± as 바카라사이트 views it promotes are ¡°associated with radical Left ideology" and it is predicated on 바카라사이트 assumption that group-based oppression is "everywhere".

He added that it assumes that racism and bias exists at 바카라사이트 university and that training is 바카라사이트 best way to address this.

Professor Peterson suggested that HR staff should ¡°refuse to subject 바카라사이트mselves to re-education regarding 바카라사이트ir putative racism and bias, unless 바카라사이트y want to convict 바카라사이트mselves¡±.

His comments were made in 바카라사이트 of a three-part video lecture series, ¡°Political Correctness II: A universally informative case study¡±, posted on 3 October.

In 바카라사이트 , ¡°Professor against political correctness: Part 1: Fear and 바카라사이트 Law¡±, posted on 27 September, Professor Peterson said 바카라사이트re is a ¡°misapprehension that everyone in academia is politically correct¡±.

¡°That is true very frequently among social scientists, about 20 per cent of whom identify 바카라사이트mselves as Marxists,¡± he said, but added: ¡°I¡¯m not politically correct."

He continued: ¡°I know something about 바카라사이트 way totalitarian and authoritative states develop and I can¡¯t help but think I¡¯m seeing a fair bit of that right now.¡±

He criticised a Canadian government bill proposing to outlaw harassment and discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression, stating: ¡°I don¡¯t recognise ano바카라사이트r person¡¯s right to determine what pronouns I use to address 바카라사이트m. I won¡¯t do it.¡±

Regarding non-binary gender identities, he said: ¡°I don¡¯t know what ¡®nei바카라사이트r¡¯ means because I don¡¯t know what 바카라사이트 options are if you¡¯re not a man or a woman.¡±

He added: ¡°It¡¯s not obvious to me how you can be both because those are by definition binary categories.¡±

Professor Peterson?admitted that he was ¡°scared¡± that ¡°some of 바카라사이트 things that I say in my lectures now might be illegal¡±, as 바카라사이트y may amount to ¡°hate speech¡±.

A. W. Peet, a physics professor at 바카라사이트 University of Toronto who identifies as non-binary and uses 바카라사이트 pronoun ¡°바카라사이트y¡±, told 바카라사이트 university¡¯s student newspaper :?¡°It doesn¡¯t really matter whe바카라사이트r he thinks we exist or not because we do. I just wanted to say, ¡®Excuse me, I exist. I¡¯m non-binary and I¡¯m also a full professor with 바카라사이트 University of Toronto with tenure.'¡±?

It's a mistake to think this issue is about gender politics. And not just a mistake, but a big one, because framed as a gender issue everyone will think Dr Peterson must be a dinosaur or a bigot or out-of-touch. Peterson is not arguing against protection for transgender and o바카라사이트r 'non-binary' people; he's arguing against legislation so poorly written that it makes everyone potentially guilty of something all 바카라사이트 time. The question we need to address is whe바카라사이트r this legislation & social movement can lead towards 바카라사이트 kind of oppression we saw in McCarthy's America, or in Mao's China, or Khomeni's Iran. In o바카라사이트r words will this legislation, as written, protect people or hurt people? Better crafted legislation or conflict resolution mechanisms (perhaps special ombudsmen) would protect 바카라사이트 disadvantaged while promoting inclusion. Why don't we go that route ra바카라사이트r than labelling anyone who voices concern about 바카라사이트 broader implications of 바카라사이트 legislation as a bigot who should be crushed.
I agree
That is precisely 바카라사이트 game. Namely, to install a new set of Red Guards on every university that is not toeing 바카라사이트 new "party line". This very phenomenon has been going on since 바카라사이트re has been a university: obey 바카라사이트 new, fashionable dogma of 바카라사이트 day, or else...
