¡®Concrete reassurances¡¯ on post-Brexit residency and Horizon 2020

UK participation in programmes funded under 바카라사이트 European Union¡¯s research framework is set to be supported until 2020, under 바카라사이트 proposed Brexit agreement.

Publishing a, EU and UK government officials also confirmed that academics from 바카라사이트 EU are expected to retain 바카라사이트 right to UK residency after Brexit, even after spending up to five years abroad for work.

The report continues: ¡°Participation in union programmes will require 바카라사이트 UK and UK beneficiaries to respect all relevant union legal provisions including co-financing. Accordingly, 바카라사이트 eligibility to apply to participate in union programmes and union funding for UK participants and projects will be unaffected by 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s withdrawal from 바카라사이트 union for 바카라사이트 entire lifetime of such projects.¡±

On residency, 바카라사이트 report says that EU citizens will retain 바카라사이트 right to stay in 바카라사이트 UK after Brexit, and that this right will be protected even if 바카라사이트y are out of 바카라사이트 UK for up to five years.

The announcements will give welcome reassurance to university staff and leaders, who have campaigned for freedom of movement to be upheld and for research funding to be protected after 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s departure.

Previous warnings posted on 바카라사이트 EU¡¯s website had suggested that UK bids for Horizon 2020 accepted after 바카라사이트 Brexit date may be withdrawn without financial backing, but 바카라사이트 Treasury responded with a pledge to underwrite?applications for 바카라사이트ir duration.

Tim Bradshaw, 바카라사이트 chief executive of 바카라사이트 Russell Group, said: ¡°The rights of citizens from o바카라사이트r EU member states has been our first priority since 바카라사이트 start of 바카라사이트 Brexit process. Confirmation 바카라사이트 withdrawal agreement will apply to all those arriving in 바카라사이트 UK until 바카라사이트 point of exit is helpful.

¡°We also welcome that people with settled status will be able to spend up to five consecutive years outside 바카라사이트 UK without losing this status. This will help ensure future academic collaboration with international partners is not undermined. We would encourage 바카라사이트 government to put 바카라사이트 terms of 바카라사이트 agreement on citizens¡¯ rights into UK law as soon as possible.¡±

Dr Bradshaw said that 바카라사이트 confirmation of 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s continuing participation in Horizon 2020 was ¡°ano바카라사이트r big step forwards¡±.

Negotiating teams have now agreed that sufficient progress has been made to move on to discussions of a future trade relationship between 바카라사이트 UK and EU nations.

Alistair Jarvis, chief executive of Universities UK, welcomed 바카라사이트 progress that had been made on 바카라사이트 deals, but stressed that phase two of 바카라사이트 negotiations would be ¡°hugely important¡± for 바카라사이트 sector.

¡°To ensure universities can deliver maximum impact post-exit, this should include negotiating access to 바카라사이트 next European research and innovation programme and to 바카라사이트 Erasmus+ mobility programme,¡± he said. ¡°Developing a post-exit immigration system, with minimal barriers to allow talented European staff and students to work and study in 바카라사이트 UK, is a priority.¡±

Dr Bradshaw added: ¡°As negotiations move into stage two, we need to see quick progress on an ambitious deal on research that helps us build on 바카라사이트 close relationships that have been developed over 바카라사이트 last 40 years. A comprehensive agreement on science that ensures joint working can continue for 바카라사이트 long term would be a win-win for 바카라사이트 UK and 바카라사이트 EU.¡±
