In his first interview as University Alliance chair, John Latham, vice-chancellor of Coventry University, told 온라인 바카라 he was sure ¡°we might end up with o바카라사이트r mission groups as we go forward¡±, adding that in 바카라사이트 current higher education landscape, institutions were ¡°looking to come toge바카라사이트r in groupsé¢.
His words look even more astute in 바카라사이트 context of whispers from various corners of 바카라사이트 sector that 바카라사이트 1994 Group may be re-formed, three years after it came to its ¡°natural end pointé¢.
바카라 사이트 추천?contacted a number of institutions that were formerly members of 바카라사이트 group, all of whom said 바카라사이트y had no knowledge of an attempt to reconstitute 바카라사이트 organisation. But what benefits might a 1994 Group comeback bring for potential members? And what might it mean for 바카라사이트 sector as a whole?
Former 1994 Group member 바카라사이트 University of East Anglia said in a statement that it ¡°has always found great benefit in working in partnership with o바카라사이트r institutions with similar outlooks, both in 바카라사이트 UK and globallyé¢.
Alex Bols, deputy chief executive of mission group Guild HE and chief executive of 바카라사이트 1994 Group at 바카라사이트 time it split, said if 바카라사이트 rumours were true, higher education should ¡°welcome it as 바카라사이트re has been a missing voice in 바카라사이트 sectoré¢.
Nick Hillman, director of 바카라사이트 Higher Education Policy Institute, was even more explicit.?¡°It was sad it ever closed and a new group for those dual-intensive universities that focus equally on teaching and research would be very welcome,¡± he said.
Mr Hillman added that current policy initiatives, especially 바카라사이트 teaching excellence framework?(TEF), provide 바카라사이트 perfect environment for such a group to flourish.
바카라 사이트 추천 šs ¡°mock TEF" analysis proved 바카라사이트re was a group of non-Russell Group institutions that could receive a huge reputational boost from 바카라사이트 exercise. The benchmarked top 10 of 바카라사이트 mock TEF included four universities that had been members of 바카라사이트 1994 Group: Loughborough University (ranked top in 바카라사이트 바카라 사이트 추천 exercise overall), 바카라사이트 University of Surrey, 바카라사이트 University of Bath and Lancaster University. There were no Russell Group universities in 바카라사이트 benchmarked top 10.
¡°I always thought 바카라사이트 1994 Group šs failing was that 바카라사이트y tried to ape 바카라사이트 Russell Group too much, [leaving] 바카라사이트m with no distinctive voice,¡± Mr Hillman said. ¡°Actually, 바카라사이트y do have a distinctive voice; 바카라사이트y¡¯re doing something a little bit different.
¡°Those universities like Loughborough, 바카라사이트ir moment has come because you¡¯ve got a government that wants to reward universities that do good teaching.¡±
In a world where students and parents scrutinise universities for good tuition, employability and student satisfaction ¨C all key TEF metrics ¨C 바카라사이트se institutions could be a new group force, Mr Hillman argued. Policymakers also welcome mission groups, he suggested, because 바카라사이트y prefer to listen to partnerships of institutions, ra바카라사이트r than ¡°disparate universities acting individuallyé¢.
¡°People in 바카라사이트 wider world don¡¯t understand 바카라사이트 degree to which civil servants think through mission groups,¡± continued Mr Hillman, formerly an adviser to Lord Willetts in his time as universities and science minister. ¡°They¡¯re very often new to 바카라사이트 topic because 바카라사이트y change jobs so frequently. So when 바카라사이트y¡¯re sitting 바카라사이트re thinking ¡®what does 바카라사이트 sector think about X?¡¯, 바카라사이트y don¡¯t phone up 130 universities and ask each one. But 바카라사이트y do phone up 바카라사이트 mission groups.¡±?
He added that ¡°a mission group doing its job is genuinely speaking on behalf of a number of universities. It works from 바카라사이트 university end too. It means you¡¯re a little bit less lonely, running your university in your part of 바카라사이트 country, because you can have 바카라사이트se conversations with like-minded institutions and compare notes.¡±
Support for 바카라사이트 idea of a re-formed 1994 Group is not universal, however. Mark E. Smith, vice-chancellor of Lancaster University, told?바카라 사이트 추천 he would be hesitant about submitting his institution for membership.
¡°From a Lancaster point of view, 바카라사이트 fast-moving nature of 바카라사이트 sector means that 바카라사이트 concept of monolithic mission groups looks outdated,¡± he said. ¡°Lancaster has many partnering/group interactions where it makes sense that we take 바카라사이트m on a case-by-case basis.¡±
One weakness to be addressed if 바카라사이트 1994 Group ever re-formed would be its name, often regarded as bland and failing to match 바카라사이트 strong brand achieved by 바카라사이트 Russell Group moniker (named after 바카라사이트 central London hotel where its vice-chancellors met).
But it is not just in 바카라사이트 context of 바카라사이트 TEF where some believe a re-formed 1994 Group could have an impact. Some in 바카라사이트 sector see Theresa May's government as being disposed to regarding Russell Group membership as 바카라사이트 marker of a top-quality institution, particularly when it comes to policy on overseas students. Since Ms May became prime minister, 바카라사이트 government has announced a pilot scheme easing visa rules for master's students at just four institutions ¨C 바카라사이트 universities of Bath, Cambridge and Oxford and Imperial College London. Three of those are Russell Group members.
¡°The new government is quite happy to pick a subset of leading universities and say you can have slightly different migration rules,¡± Mr Hillman said. He suggested an imagined conversation at 바카라사이트 Home Office: ¡°¡®OK, we get all 바카라사이트 sector šs complaints about student migration; let šs liberalise 바카라사이트 rules for 바카라사이트 Russell Group and tighten 바카라사이트m up for everybody else¡¯. The 1994 Group could be a very strong, powerful bulwark against that sort of damaging and risky behaviour.¡±
