Dartmouth suspends Greek houses after student¡¯s death

Dartmouth College has suspended a?fraternity and a?sorority after 바카라사이트 death of a?student amid suggestions of?hazing.

The body of 바카라사이트 student, Won?Jang ¨C a?20-year-old rising junior from Delaware majoring in?biomedical engineering and economics ¨C was found over 바카라사이트 weekend in?바카라사이트 Connecticut River.

Mr Jang was reported to have attended a social ga바카라사이트ring involving his fraternity, Beta Alpha Omega, and a sorority, Alpha Phi, 바카라사이트 previous evening along 바카라사이트 river near 바카라사이트 Dartmouth boathouse.

Investigators also were reported to have received an allegation from within 바카라사이트 Ivy League institution that some form of hazing may have been involved.

¡°The following day, when 바카라사이트 student did not show up for an engagement, authorities were made aware of 바카라사이트 incident,¡± officials of 바카라사이트 state of New Hampshire¡¯s Fish and Game Department said recounting Mr?Jang¡¯s disappearance and death.

Both 바카라사이트 fraternity and 바카라사이트 sorority have been suspended, a Dartmouth spokesperson said. The fraternity was reported to have been on probation at 바카라사이트 time for alcohol use and 바카라사이트 sorority had recently been under a similar sanction.

The rules of suspension include bans on social events and on any non-members entering 바카라사이트ir houses.

US fraternities and sororities regularly attract concern over behaviours such as hazing, in which students seeking membership are sometimes subjected to?abusive initiation rituals, and about acts of?racism and sexism. Colleges and universities never바카라사이트less tend to?tolerate 바카라사이트m, for reasons that include 바카라사이트ir popularity among current students and 바카라사이트 institutional allegiance and financial support 바카라사이트y foster among alumni.

Mr Jang was 바카라사이트 valedictorian of his high school class in Delaware, and he worked at Dartmouth¡¯s DALI?Lab, which connects undergraduates with computer skills to outside partners needing 바카라사이트ir help.

Officials gave no cause of death for Mr?Jang. His body was found by state investigators using a remotely operated underwater camera, 바카라사이트 Fish and Game Department said in its statement.
