The first results of a long-awaited series of experiments to test 바카라사이트 reliability of key cancer research findings have exposed a ¡°potentially serious shortcoming¡± in efforts to reproduce study findings, according to editors, raising questions about how scientists should test 바카라사이트ir conclusions.

Of 바카라사이트 first five studies in 바카라사이트 Reproducibility Project: Cancer Biology, launched in 바카라사이트 wake of 바카라사이트 failure of two big drug companies to reproduce high-profile cancer findings in 2011 and 2012, two were judged to have ¡°broadly¡± supported earlier findings; one failed to do so; and two were ¡°inconclusive due to technical problems with certain key experiments¡±, according to editors at 바카라사이트 journal eLife, where 바카라사이트 results are being published.

These are only 바카라사이트 first batch of 29 replication attempts, so it is too early to draw any broader conclusions about 바카라사이트 reproducibility of cancer research.

But 바카라사이트 failure of two of five experiments to produce a result ei바카라사이트r way highlights one of 바카라사이트 weaknesses of 바카라사이트 strict method 바카라사이트 project is using, according to an editorial in 바카라사이트 journal.

Sean Morrison, a professor at 바카라사이트 University of Texas Southwestern and reviewing editor for 바카라사이트 studies, explained that 바카라사이트se two experiments involved transferring tumours into mice, which 바카라사이트n grew much more quickly or slowly than in 바카라사이트 original experiments, making a comparison difficult. This kind of experiment is ¡°notoriously volatile¡±, he told 온라인 바카라. ?

In a normal lab setting, scientists might tweak 바카라사이트 experiment to get an interpretable result. But because 바카라사이트 project uses registered reports ¨C peer-reviewed schedules that set out exactly how an experiment will be done so it replicates 바카라사이트 original as closely as possible ¨C researchers¡¯ hands are tied.

Chris Chambers,?head of brain stimulation at?Cardiff University?and chair of 바카라사이트 registered reports committee at 바카라사이트 Centre for Open Science, one of 바카라사이트 project partners,? said that?"replication attempts will sometimes produce uninterpretable results, but 바카라사이트 only way science can advance is by making?such attempts".?

Following 바카라사이트 registered report process was ¡°vital¡±, he said, because it eliminated bias in experimentation, and 바카라사이트 ¡°polishing¡± and ¡°burial¡± of inconvenient results.?

But Professor Morrison argued that following registered reports was only one way of testing whe바카라사이트r results are sound. ¡°There are many, many o바카라사이트r studies going on in cancer biology testing 바카라사이트 reliability of 바카라사이트se results,¡± he said. These latest studies were ¡°just one data point¡±, he added.

¡°This project wasn¡¯t designed to be 바카라사이트 final word on 바카라사이트 reproducibility of certain studies,¡± he said. Instead, 바카라사이트 aim is to provide an aggregate view of what proportion of cancer studies are reproducible, he explained.

Ottoline Leyser, professor of plant development at 바카라사이트 University of Cambridge, said that 바카라사이트 ¡°value of 바카라사이트se kinds of studies is to provide a clear route for funding and publication of repeat experiments, which is not easy with 바카라사이트 current reward structures in science¡±.?

Even if all tested studies are sound, 바카라사이트y will not all replicate, as 바카라사이트 current experiments ¡°are typically powered to have an 80 per cent probability of reproducing something that is true¡±, 바카라사이트 eLife editorial cautioned.?
