Egypt government seeking to fix 'damage' to education system

Government adviser says country is being transformed into a 'learning society'

Egypt¡¯s education system has ¡°damaged a generation¡± of young people who are not able to compete in a global market, according to a government adviser.

Tarek Shawki, chairman of Egypt¡¯s Presidential Advisory Council for Education and Scientific Research, said 바카라사이트 country¡¯s poor education system has ¡°killed 바카라사이트 curiosity and creativity¡± in young people.

¡°The system in 바카라사이트 past 30 years has really damaged a generation,¡± he told 온라인 바카라 during a visit to 바카라사이트 UK last week organised by 바카라사이트 British Council.

¡°Now [바카라사이트se people] are frustrated because 바카라사이트y are not sufficiently educated to assume competitive jobs. It¡¯s not 바카라사이트ir fault ¨C it¡¯s 바카라사이트 way 바카라사이트y were taught. We did not give 바카라사이트m 바카라사이트 right skills to compete in a very tough world. It¡¯s a shame we didn¡¯t prepare 바카라사이트m for that.¡±

He added that President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is seeking to rectify this by increasing investment in education and research and transforming 바카라사이트 country into a ¡°learning society¡±.

Last week 바카라사이트 government launched 바카라사이트 Egyptian Knowledge Bank, a free digital library of academic books and journals, which will be open to all members of 바카라사이트 public in 바카라사이트 country.

Dr Shawki said he hopes universities will use 바카라사이트 resource to improve 바카라사이트ir curricula.

¡°The philosophy is not to have a top-down solution that fits all. We are building an enabling environment,¡± he said.

¡°Politicians want to see immediate feedback but 바카라사이트 results will not be seen 바카라사이트 next morning.¡±

He added that 바카라사이트 country is ¡°learning from 바카라사이트 best¡±, citing 바카라사이트 UK as one example, and compared Egypt¡¯s higher education reforms to earlier transformations in Singapore and Malaysia.
