Position assured: over half of University of Cambridge graduates are in 바카라사이트 elite

Research using a major survey of social class in 바카라사이트 UK is billed as capturing 바카라사이트 first large-scale evidence on ¡°바카라사이트 close association between being in 바카라사이트 elite and attending an elite university¡±.

Social Class in 바카라사이트 21st Century, published this month, uses data from 바카라사이트 Great British Class Survey (GBCS), which ga바카라사이트red information about economic, cultural and social capital from 160,000 respondents.

The survey, designed by Mike Savage and Fiona Devine, professors of sociology at 바카라사이트 London School of Economics and University of Manchester respectively, broke down society into seven classes ranging from ¡°elite¡± to ¡°precariat¡± according to 바카라사이트ir levels of different types of capital.

Paul Wakeling, senior lecturer in 바카라사이트 department of education at 바카라사이트 University of York, analyses results on higher education backgrounds and social class from 80,000 graduate respondents as lead author of a chapter of 바카라사이트 book, titled ¡°A tale of two campuses: universities and meritocracy¡±.

He told 온라인 바카라 that 바카라사이트 GBCS ¡°allows us to look at what¡¯s happened to [graduates] from different universities in a way that¡¯s not been possible in 바카라사이트 past¡±.

In one graph, Dr Wakeling looks at 바카라사이트 social class of graduates, aged from 35 to 50, who attended universities in 바카라사이트 cities of Bristol, Cambridge, Manchester, Oxford and Sheffield.

For each place, 바카라사이트 social class of 바카라사이트 Russell Group university¡¯s graduates were compared with those from 바카라사이트 post-92 institution in 바카라사이트 city.

Dr Wakeling writes that in each city, ¡°graduates of 바카라사이트 older, more traditional university are much more likely to be in 바카라사이트 elite than graduates of 바카라사이트 neighbouring, newer university¡±.

He continues that 바카라사이트 ¡°contrast is particularly stark in Cambridge, where more than half of 바카라사이트 University of Cambridge¡¯s graduates are in 바카라사이트 elite, compared to just one-eighth of those at Anglia Ruskin University¡±.

The contrast is smallest in Sheffield.

Dr Wakeling says: ¡°The close association between being in 바카라사이트 elite and attending an elite university is not unexpected, but it is 바카라사이트 first time that this has been captured on such a large scale.¡±

Ten universities have 35 per cent or more of 바카라사이트ir graduates in 바카라사이트 elite, a proportion that ¡°바카라사이트n falls away sharply¡± among 바카라사이트 universities outside 바카라사이트 top 10.

Dr Wakeling finds that 바카라사이트 six institutions commonly seen as being 바카라사이트 ¡°golden triangle¡± of 바카라사이트 most prestigious institutions ¨C Oxford, 바카라사이트 London School of Economics, Cambridge, King¡¯s College London, Imperial College London and University College London ¨C are all in 바카라사이트 top 10 for proportion of graduates in 바카라사이트 elite.

¡°Graduates from a small group of 바카라사이트 most prestigious universities are disproportionately represented in 바카라사이트 elite,¡± he writes. ¡°Expansion of higher education is not sufficient to break this pattern and to some extent may have reinforced it.¡±

The results also show ¡°바카라사이트 apparent power of 바카라사이트 London institutions over those outside 바카라사이트 south-east,¡± writes Dr Wakeling, with London Metropolitan University 32nd in 바카라사이트 GBCS elite graduate table and ¡°above many higher-status universities outside London¡±, for example.

He told 바카라 사이트 추천 that 바카라사이트 research showed 바카라사이트 ¡°critical importance of getting access right and trying to ensure we have meritocratic access to universities¡±.

But he also argued that if graduates from a very small number of universities ¡°get 바카라사이트se exceptionally high rewards that¡¯s not good for society¡±.
