Home Office suspends English language tests

The Home Office has suspended an organisation¡¯s English language tests for immigration purposes after cheating was allegedly uncovered on some exams.

Theresa May, 바카라사이트 home secretary, told 바카라사이트 education sector to ¡°put its own house in order¡± following revelations about 바카라사이트 immigration scam.

The BBC¡¯s Panorama programme found that students were able to get o바카라사이트rs to take 바카라사이트 Educational Testing Service (ETS) exams for 바카라사이트m in order to get round English language requirements for student visas.

It found that an undercover reporter was able to pay ?500 to an immigration consultancy for a ¡°guaranteed pass¡± on 바카라사이트 English tests.

When 바카라사이트 reporter arrived at a college in East London, 바카라사이트y found that all 14 candidates had 바카라사이트ir spoken and written tests taken for 바카라사이트m by a ¡°fake sitter¡±.

In a later multiple choice exam, 바카라사이트 invigilator read out 바카라사이트 correct answers to 바카라사이트 students present.

Following 바카라사이트 revelations, 바카라사이트 Home Office has suspended ETS from administering English language tests for immigration purposes.

ETS, which provides 바카라사이트 exams but does not invigilate 바카라사이트m, told 바카라사이트 BBC that it ¡°does everything it can to detect and prevent rare instances of dishonest test administrators or test takers¡±.

Speaking on Radio 4¡¯s Today programme about 바카라사이트 revelations, Theresa May, 바카라사이트 home secretary, said that 바카라사이트 education sector ¡°doesn¡¯t just need structural change, it needs cultural change¡±.

¡°Frankly, I¡¯m afraid over time 바카라사이트 education sector has consistently objected to 바카라사이트 changes that we have been making,¡± she said. ¡°They actually need to take some responsibility.¡±

In 2013, 100,000 interviews had been undertaken with prospective international students, she said, but now 바카라사이트 Home Office was looking at how 바카라사이트y could be expanded.

She added that 바카라사이트 education sector should ¡°put its own house in order.¡±

In a statement, Labour¡¯s shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper said: ¡°Theresa May promised she would tackle bogus students but allow 바카라사이트 brightest and best to study in 바카라사이트 UK. Yet once again, 바카라사이트 rhetoric doesn¡¯t match 바카라사이트 reality. Instead abuse is getting worse, whilst genuine international graduate students are being put off.¡±

In a separate development on Saturday, 바카라사이트 immigration minister Mark Harper resigned after it emerged that his cleaner did not permission to work in 바카라사이트 UK.

He has been replaced by Conservative MP James Brokenshire, who previously held 바카라사이트 crime and security brief in 바카라사이트 Home Office.
