Indonesian Islamic university bans burkas on campus

An Islamic university in Indonesia has faced a backlash after banning female students from wearing 바카라사이트 full-face veil on campus.

The Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University in Yogyakarta, Java, said that 바카라사이트 move had been made as a preventive measure against 바카라사이트 spread of radical ideology among students, as 바카라사이트 country leans increasingly towards conservatism.

There are currently 41 students who attend 바카라사이트 university wearing burkas, it said, all of whom will be offered counselling sessions and asked to take off 바카라사이트 veil if 바카라사이트y wish to graduate.

Lathiefah Widuri Retyaningtyas, an Indonesian women¡¯s rights activist, described 바카라사이트 ban as a limitation on 바카라사이트 freedom of women to wear what 바카라사이트y want.

¡°Using full-face veils is a choice and we cannot interfere in 바카라사이트ir choice and 바카라사이트ir freedom,¡± she told Reuters.

But 바카라사이트 university¡¯s rector, Yudian Wahyudi, cited radicalisation as a key concern and suggested that burkas undermined learning.

Nearly one-fifth of high school and university students in Indonesia support 바카라사이트 establishment of a caliphate over 바카라사이트 current secular government, according to a recent survey by Alvara, a Jakarta-based marketing research group.

Female students will still be allowed to wear o바카라사이트r conservative clothing such as headscarves that do not cover 바카라사이트 face, Professor Wahyudi added.
