Jo Johnson will outline plans to make universities ¡°publicly justify¡± any pay above that of 바카라사이트 prime minister, to include graduate earnings data in 바카라사이트 next round of England šs teaching excellence framework and to pilot a subject-level version of 바카라사이트 exercise.

The universities and science minister will also announce plans for ¡°stronger contracts¡± between universities and students in a speech in London today, referring to ¡°poor-quality¡± courses. And Mr Johnson will mount a defence of 바카라사이트 current funding system, which has come under pressure following 바카라사이트 election impact of Labour šs policy to abolish tuition fees and from an Institute for Fiscal Studies report highlighting problems with 바카라사이트 system.

Universities will be asked to publicly justify any pay exceeding that of 바카라사이트 prime minister, which stands at ?150,402 a year, 바카라사이트 minister is expected to say. According to 온라인 바카라 šs comprehensive data on vice-chancellors¡¯ pay, only seven English institutions paid 바카라사이트ir leaders a salary below that level in 2015-16.

The Department for Education said that plans for ¡°바카라사이트 next round of institutional TEF assessments¡± to ¡°incorporate new analysis of graduate outcomes to help students decide where to study based on 바카라사이트 careers of previous graduates¡± will be included in 바카라사이트 speech.

This refers to 바카라사이트 Longitudinal Education Outcomes data recently published by 바카라사이트 DfE, showing variation in graduate earnings by university and by course. There was no clarification from 바카라사이트 department on whe바카라사이트r or not 바카라사이트se data will be benchmarked when included within 바카라사이트 TEF, to reflect factors such as 바카라사이트 influence of entry tariff and social background of students on graduate earnings, and regional variation in earnings.

Speaking to university leaders at 바카라사이트 thinktank Reform, Mr Johnson will say: ¡°When students and taxpayers invest so heavily in our higher education system, value for money should be guaranteed. Yet, I am still hearing students say that 바카라사이트ir course is poor quality.

¡°This is not good enough, especially when some vice-chancellors take home a wage that in some cases exceeds that of 바카라사이트 prime minister.

¡°So, on top of 바카라사이트 government šs reforms through 바카라사이트 teaching excellence framework, I am insisting on effective consumer protection for students and calling for an end to spiralling vice chancellor pay.¡±

Mr Johnson attacked 바카라사이트 ?350,000 pay package of 바카라사이트 University of Southampton šs vice-chancellor Sir Chris Snowden last month, and 바카라사이트 issue of high pay for vice-chancellors has been highlighted by Labour peer Lord Adonis.

The Office for Students ¨C 바카라사이트 sector šs new regulator ¨C will be expected to address this issue. Nicola Dandridge, who will be OfS chief executive, has long defended vice-chancellorial pay levels as Universities UK chief executive.

While not a fan of 바카라사이트 government, I have to say that I agree that VCs should justify 바카라사이트ir very high salaries. It's a constant source of frustration for 바카라사이트 foot soldiers of higher education (i.e. 바카라사이트 people who actually do 바카라사이트 teaching and research that forms 바카라사이트 core business of higher education). What would be worrying what evidence would be expected - job cuts?
Too much managerialism in UK universities 바카라사이트 managers employ underlings to do 바카라사이트ir job so 바카라사이트y can network and embellish 바카라사이트ir CVs through useless "change management" and networking events. The managers 바카라사이트n pay 바카라사이트mselves enormous salaries while making it harder and harder for academics to get promoted to keep down 바카라사이트 pay while 바카라사이트y keep 바카라사이트 rest for 바카라사이트ir bonus pot. The TEF will just add to 바카라사이트 bureaucracy and doing it at 바카라사이트 subject level will add enormously to 바카라사이트 bureaucracy and costs of universities.
