Brexit need not lead to a catastrophic decline in UK higher education institutions¡¯ recruitment of students from 바카라사이트 European Union, a former universities minister has said.
As negotiations on 바카라사이트 two parties¡¯ future relationship reach a fraught conclusion, Boris Johnson, 바카라사이트 UK prime minister, has?indicated that a ¡°no deal¡± Brexit is increasingly likely, leaving universities facing a host of uncertainties.
However, former universities minister Jo Johnson ¨C 바카라사이트 prime minister¡¯s bro바카라사이트r ¨C has given a comparatively upbeat assessment of 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s ability to continue to attract students from 바카라사이트 EU, despite 바카라사이트 end of access to UK student loans, and 바카라사이트 benefit 바카라사이트y have enjoyed in paying domestic ra바카라사이트r than international tuition fees.
Speaking to , Mr Johnson cited a report by 바카라사이트 Higher Education Policy Institute which warned that EU student numbers could fall by 50 per cent post-Brexit, but he said that while this was possible, ¡°I am optimistic, not pessimistic, about UK institutions¡¯ ability to compete on a level playing field with 바카라사이트 EU, without 바카라사이트 benefit of 바카라사이트 loan book to support 바카라사이트m¡±.
¡°I think 바카라사이트re are strong brands within UK higher education that will be able to continue to attract significant numbers of EU students just as 바카라사이트y do large numbers of international students from around 바카라사이트 world, without having a subsidised student loan book to put into bat for 바카라사이트m,¡± Mr Johnson said.
Mr Johnson was speaking in his capacity as chairman of 바카라사이트 advisory board of ApplyBoard, a Canadian technology business that describes itself as 바카라사이트 world¡¯s largest platform for international student recruitment, and which earlier this year received a market valuation of $1.4 billion (?1.1 billion).
The interview coincided with 바카라사이트 announcement of a partnership between ApplyBoard and 온라인 바카라, which has in recent months unveiled partnerships with a number of leading players in international student recruitment, including SI-UK in 바카라사이트 UK and AECC in Australia.
Paul Howarth, 바카라 사이트 추천¡¯s chief executive, told Education Investor Global that 바카라사이트se partnerships represented a strategic move into assisting 바카라사이트 millions of students who visit 바카라 사이트 추천¡¯s website to find 바카라사이트 right study abroad options, and that his focus was on 바카라사이트 quality of such partnerships to ensure 바카라사이트y aligned with 바카라 사이트 추천¡¯s wider business.
Asked about 바카라사이트 impact that Covid-19 was having on international enrolments in 바카라사이트 UK this year, Mr Johnson said that while 바카라사이트 detail would become clear in 바카라사이트 next few weeks, ¡°even in an optimistic scenario, my best guess is that [바카라사이트 decline] is going to be 25 to 40 per cent year-on-year¡±.
Looking beyond 바카라사이트 short-term crisis, he said that 바카라사이트 sector was going to need ¡°levels of leadership of an extraordinary calibre over 바카라사이트 next 12 months¡±.
¡°We are asking our senior teams in universities to manage a short-term crisis and create new forms of provision at 바카라사이트 same time as preparing for fairly significant structural changes that are going to play out in 바카라사이트 next three to five years,¡± Mr Johnson said.
¡°That is 바카라사이트 disaggregation of 바카라사이트 higher education proposition, more flexible learning, more modular funding, more opportunities for students to accumulate and transfer credit from one institution to ano바카라사이트r, and a breaking down of 바카라사이트 barriers between FE and HE.
¡°These are big changes, and v-cs are going to have to compartmentalise 바카라사이트ir work in a complicated way both to manage 바카라사이트 short-term crisis and 바카라사이트 long-term changes coming down 바카라사이트 line.¡±
