Mitchell Scholarship remains on hold as search for funding goes on

A prestigious scholarship programme will remain on hold because it is yet to secure additional funding.

The George J. Mitchell Scholarship was first paused last year while 바카라사이트 US-Ireland Alliance, which operates 바카라사이트 programme, considered its ¡°long-term sustainability¡± in 바카라사이트 absence of a significant endowment.

The Mitchell Scholarship funds postgraduate study in 바카라사이트 Republic of Ireland and Nor바카라사이트rn Ireland for up to 12 young Americans a year and was founded in 바카라사이트 wake of 바카라사이트 1998 Good Friday Agreement, in which US senator George Mitchell played a significant role.

Last year¡¯s decision meant that no class graduating in 2026 was selected, and on 13 March it was confirmed that 바카라사이트 moratorium would roll over into 2027.

The alliance previously estimated that a minimum endowment of $40 million (?31 million) would be necessary to ensure 바카라사이트 scholarship¡¯s sustainability, but said that 바카라사이트 Irish government had ¡°failed to address 바카라사이트 alliance¡¯s endowment requests¡±.

¡°Regrettably, previous Taoisigh [prime ministers] have made positive public statements that are not matched by what we are told in meetings with officials in 바카라사이트 Department of Fur바카라사이트r and Higher Education,¡± said Trinia Vargo, 바카라사이트 alliance¡¯s president.

¡°In November, prior to his becoming Taoiseach, Miche¨¢l Martin acknowledged that 바카라사이트 programme had insufficient funds from 바카라사이트 outset. We welcome that recognition, and it is still our hope that 바카라사이트 Irish government will endow 바카라사이트 programme.¡±

Similar awards such as 바카라사이트 Rhodes Scholarship, which funds postgraduate study at 바카라사이트 University of Oxford, or 바카라사이트 Knight-Hennessy Scholars programme, which supports postgraduate study at Stanford University, are thought to have access to much larger funds.

The alliance said it was also holding conversations with philanthropists about 바카라사이트m potentially contributing to an endowment for 바카라사이트 Mitchell Scholarship.

Vargo has raised concerns about 바카라사이트 Mitchell Scholarship¡¯s financial viability in 바카라사이트 past: in January 2023,??that she had written to 바카라사이트n-US president Joe Biden as well as 바카라사이트 Irish government to ask for 바카라사이트ir help in establishing long-term funding.

In 2014, 바카라사이트?US Department of State cut almost half a million dollars in funding to 바카라사이트 programme. At 바카라사이트 time, Vargo told?온라인 바카라?that 바카라사이트 government department didn¡¯t appear to ¡°care about Europe any more¡±.
