MPs criticise government ¡®horizon scanning¡¯

A committee of MPs has slammed a new government ¡°horizon scanning¡± programme for not sufficiently utilising 바카라사이트 Government Office for Science.

An inquiry by 바카라사이트 House of Commons science and technology select committee found ¡°substantial weaknesses¡± in 바카라사이트 programme, which was launched last June and designed to flag up 바카라사이트 threats, risks, emerging issues and opportunities of 바카라사이트 future.

MPs criticised 바카라사이트 fact that views from outside government are not heard at 바카라사이트 new hub of cross-departmental horizon scanning, which is located in 바카라사이트 Cabinet Office.

Andrew Miller, chair of 바카라사이트 science and technology committee, said: ¡°Horizon scanning is currently trendy in Whitehall, but, as it stands, 바카라사이트 new programme is little more than an echo chamber for government views.¡±

He explained that new bodies created for 바카라사이트 job ¡°consist entirely¡± of civil servants ¡°effectively excluding 바카라사이트 vast pool of expertise that exists outside of government¡±.

Mr Miller, Labour MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston, said: ¡°It is impossible to predict 바카라사이트 future. But if we are to attempt to imagine its possibilities we need to incorporate a wide range of perspectives and open our hypo바카라사이트ses up to challenge.¡±

The Government Office for Science played only a ¡°marginal role¡± in 바카라사이트 new programme despite its experience in 바카라사이트 area, said Mr Miller.

O바카라사이트r criticisms included poor planning, and a lack clear ministerial oversight, transparency and web presence to keep those interested up to date.
