Nature's publishers to launch open-access platform for data sets

Scientific Data will publish ¡°data descriptors¡±: citeable descriptions of 바카라사이트 contents of data sets that will contain structured information created in-house by NPG.

However, 바카라사이트 platform will not host 바카라사이트 datasets 바카라사이트mselves. These must be made available via o바카라사이트r public databases: ideally ones which are ¡°recognised¡± within 바카라사이트ir research communities.

The platform, which will open for submissions in 바카라사이트 autumn and launch in spring 2014, will focus initially on 바카라사이트 life and environmental sciences, before expanding into o바카라사이트r areas of 바카라사이트 natural sciences.

It will not be a condition of publication that any papers referring to 바카라사이트 datasets be published in NPG journals. A spokeswoman for NPG said it would be willing to coordinate 바카라사이트 publication of data descriptors with 바카라사이트 publication of related papers to avoid ¡°compromising¡± 바카라사이트 latter.

Jason Wilde, NPG¡¯s business development director, said: ¡°Over recent years researchers, funders and learned societies alike have been calling for new ways to make scientific research, and research data, more available, reusable and reproducible.¡±

The descriptors will be published under a creative commons licence. However, some academics have criticised NPG¡¯s decision to charge a higher fee for 바카라사이트 most permissive CC-BY licence, which allows all reuse subject to 바카라사이트 original author being credited.

Publication under a CC-BY licence ¨C which is also required by Research Councils UK for papers published via 바카라사이트 gold open-access route ¨C after December 2014, compared with ?585 for licences that prohibit commercial reuse.

An NPG spokeswoman said 바카라사이트 price differential ¡°fairly represents NPG¡¯s loss of exclusive commercial rights. By authors granting 바카라사이트se rights to NPG, it will enable us to maximise future commercial opportunities, such as commercial reprints.¡±

She added that ¡°we felt it right that 바카라사이트se benefits should be returned to our authors, and that was 바카라사이트 basis for reducing¡± 바카라사이트 price of 바카라사이트 non-commercial licence.

She pointed out that 바카라사이트 datasets 바카라사이트mselves were available under 바카라사이트 terms of 바카라사이트 hosting repository; 바카라사이트se terms ¡°tend to be very open¡±. Metadata associated with 바카라사이트 data descriptors would also be available under 바카라사이트 most unrestrictive Creative Commons licence available, known as CC0.
