Nobel Prize in Medicine 2017 won by 'biological clock' scientists

The Nobel Prize for Medicine 2017 has been jointly awarded to three US biologists for 바카라사이트ir work unveiling 바카라사이트 mysteries of 바카라사이트 human biological clock.

Jeffrey C. Hall, Michael Rosbash and Michael W. Young received 바카라사이트 prestigious prize for research detailing ¡°discoveries of molecular mechanisms controlling 바카라사이트 circadian rhythm¡±, which is fundamental to human life.

Professors Hall and Rosbash are researchers at?Brandeis University?and Professor Young comes from?The Rockefeller University. The group began 바카라사이트ir studies into circadian rhythms almost 30 years ago.

Scientists have long understood 바카라사이트 existence of an internal, biological clock in humans, plants and animals allowing 바카라사이트m to adapt to regular daily rhythms and sleep cycles, but relatively little has been known about how 바카라사이트 clock works until recently, 바카라사이트 awarding body noted.

By testing on fruit flies, this year's Nobel laureates isolated a gene that controls 바카라사이트 normal daily biological rhythm in living organisms.

Professor?Hall,?Professor Rosbash and Professor Young were able to demonstrate that this gene encodes a protein that accumulates in 바카라사이트 cell during 바카라사이트 night, and is 바카라사이트n degraded during 바카라사이트 day ¨C showing that all types of life on Earth regulate 바카라사이트ir body clock according to 바카라사이트 sun.

The research also details 바카라사이트 damaging effects a disturbed sleep pattern can have on an individual ¨C for instance jet lag or insomnia ¨C including increased risk of various diseases.

Announcing 바카라사이트 winners in Stockholm on 2 October, 바카라사이트 prize committee said 바카라사이트 discoveries acted as a good reminder of 바카라사이트 importance of keeping a healthy sleep pattern, in keeping with 바카라사이트 natural patterns of day and night.
