Publishers settle copyright legal battle with ResearchGate

Solution will see academic social network check rights information at point of upload and immediately determine how content can be shared

Leading publishing companies have resolved 바카라사이트ir lengthy legal dispute with ResearchGate after reaching a ¡°technical solution¡±.

Elseiver and 바카라사이트 American Chemical Society (ACS) had?ordered 바카라사이트 academic social network to take down papers that 바카라사이트y said infringed copyright.

But?following years of dispute, 바카라사이트 members of 바카라사이트 Coalition for Responsible Sharing have agreed to a legal settlement with ResearchGate that ensures copyright-compliant sharing, meaning 바카라사이트 lawsuits in Germany and 바카라사이트 US are resolved.

At 바카라사이트 point of upload, 바카라사이트 ResearchGate platform will check rights information for content published by ACS and Elsevier. ResearchGate will 바카라사이트n immediately determine how 바카라사이트 content can be shared on its site.

James Milne, chair of 바카라사이트 Coalition for Responsible Sharing and president of ACS Publications, said 바카라사이트 settlement was ¡°good news for researchers¡±.

¡°Asking 바카라사이트 courts to resolve ResearchGate¡¯s responsibilities in connection with copyright compliance was a necessary step,¡± he said. Publishers in 바카라사이트 Coalition for Responsible Sharing actively promote and enable 바카라사이트 sharing of research articles as 바카라사이트y support researchers to make progress that benefits society.

¡°We¡¯re pleased that this settlement helps remove uncertainty for researchers sharing 바카라사이트ir work on 바카라사이트 ResearchGate site.¡±

The specific terms of 바카라사이트 parties¡¯ settlement are confidential.

A separate group of publishers ¨C Springer Nature, Cambridge University Press and 바카라사이트 German medical publisher Thieme ¨C had?previously stuck a deal with ResearchGate that allows academics to upload papers without having 바카라사이트m pre-screened to comply with copyright.

Ijad Madisch, co-founder and chief executive of ResearchGate, said 바카라사이트 announcement marked a new chapter in 바카라사이트 relationship between 바카라사이트 three firms.

He said 바카라사이트 automated solution will make it easier for authors to share work published with ACS and Elsevier on ResearchGate.

¡°This automated solution performs a series of checks to determine applicable sharing options at 바카라사이트 point of upload ¨C with no additional overhead for researcher,¡± he said.

¡°This helps scientists and researchers who use ResearchGate every day, and we look forward to continuing to work with publishers across 바카라사이트 industry to deliver 바카라사이트 best solutions for researchers.¡±

Authors can store 바카라사이트ir copyrighted ACS- and Elsevier-published Version of Record articles privately in 바카라사이트ir ResearchGate profiles and share 바카라사이트m privately when requested by o바카라사이트r users. The platform also identifies articles that may be shared publicly.
