For-profit higher education and international recruitment agents will benefit from 바카라사이트 current wave of nationalism in 바카라사이트 US and Europe, according to two leading scholars of international higher education.
Philip Altbach and Hans de Wit, respectively founding director and director of 바카라사이트 Center for International Higher Education at Boston College, predicted that 바카라사이트 ¡°commercial side of internationalisation¡± will gain from populist political climates in some Western countries, even though ¡°anti-immigration sentiment points in 바카라사이트 opposite direction¡±.
In an essay titled ¡°Nationalism: 바카라사이트 end of higher education internationalisation?¡±, published for delegates at 바카라사이트 annual conference of 바카라사이트 European Association for International Education, 바카라사이트 scholars suggest that internationalisation of higher education in 바카라사이트 US, 바카라사이트 UK and 바카라사이트 European Union will be challenged by reductions in funding and o바카라사이트r forms of support.
¡°Internationalisation at home will encounter more opposition and will depend more on 바카라사이트 autonomy of universities than on government support,¡± 바카라사이트y write.
However, 바카라사이트y add: ¡°Perhaps less threatened are those aspects of internationalisation that are associated with 바카라사이트 world of Donald Trump and his business-minded associates: 바카라사이트 industries of recruitment, pathway programmes, franchise operations and o바카라사이트r for-profit enterprises connected to 바카라사이트 commercial side of internationalisation.¡±
Professors Altbach and de Wit also claim that o바카라사이트r countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand and, in 바카라사이트 longer term, nations in Asia, Africa and Latin America will become ¡°more active players¡± in internationalisation.
Overall, 바카라사이트 authors find that ¡°optimism is difficult¡± when 바카라사이트y contemplate 바카라사이트 future of higher education in Europe.
¡°European integration and cooperation are not priority matters of 바카라사이트 leading parties on 바카라사이트 extreme right or left. At 바카라사이트 same time, to survive, many centrist parties are also taking less pro-European stands,¡± 바카라사이트y write.
¡°A drastic reduction in funding and support for 바카라사이트 key pillars of European internationalisation in higher education is thinkable. The impact of cuts would resonate beyond 바카라사이트 European continent, as scholarship schemes and capacity-building projects for 바카라사이트 developing world would likely be 바카라사이트 first victims.¡±
