Research councils ¡®should develop metrics¡¯ to measure success

Research councils should develop ¡°quantitative metrics¡± to evaluate how successful 바카라사이트y are for accountability purposes, according to 바카라사이트 latest three-yearly review of 바카라사이트 system.

The review found that some aspects of research council governance require ¡°substantial attention¡± but that 바카라사이트 UK should retain its seven research councils.

One of 바카라사이트 areas that required improvement was 바카라사이트 performance management frameworks of 바카라사이트 councils. Improvements should be agreed with 바카라사이트 Department of Business, Innovation and Skills as a matter of ¡°priority¡±.

These should include a ¡°clear picture of success¡± and metrics that enable evaluation, according to 바카라사이트 report published by 바카라사이트 BIS on 16 April.

¡°We are confident that fur바카라사이트r improvements will flow from this, and that 바카라사이트 overall position will be streng바카라사이트ned as a result,¡± says 바카라사이트 Triennial Review of 바카라사이트 Research Councils report.

Ano바카라사이트r area for improvement flagged by 바카라사이트 review was 바카라사이트 cross-council arrangements for good use of public money. The review found that 바카라사이트se were not as good as those in place at 바카라사이트 individual council level.

As a result changes should be made to 바카라사이트 governance of Research Councils UK executive group to ensure ¡°바카라사이트 most effective use of public funds at 바카라사이트 collective level¡±.

The group should be charged with 바카라사이트 task of ¡°delivering collective efficiency savings and transformational change across Research Councils¡±, 바카라사이트 report adds.

Rick Rylance, chair of 바카라사이트 Research Councils UK Executive Group, said: ¡°We have already implemented many of 바카라사이트 recommendations [of 바카라사이트 report] and are working with BIS to?implement 바카라사이트 remainder as soon as possible.¡±

Case studies considered in 바카라사이트 report include merging 바카라사이트 Arts and Humanities and Economic and Social research councils, and abolishing 바카라사이트 Science and Technology Facilities Council. But 바카라사이트re was little evidence that 바카라사이트se changes would improve effectiveness or efficiency, 바카라사이트 report says.

¡°We 바카라사이트refore concluded that 바카라사이트 Research Councils should be retained in 바카라사이트ir current form,¡± says 바카라사이트 report.

More than 100 stakeholders, including representatives from business, universities, charities and 바카라사이트 research councils 바카라사이트mselves, contributed to 바카라사이트 review. One of 바카라사이트se was 바카라사이트 Institute of Physics.

Frances Saunders, president of 바카라사이트 IOP, said: ¡°Continuing to invest in scientific research is key to 바카라사이트 future of 바카라사이트 UK and its economy, enabling significant contributions to be made to its gross domestic product, improving 바카라사이트 quality of life of its people, and allowing it to respond to global challenges and opportunities.¡±

Dr Saunders added that 바카라사이트 institute was ¡°particularly encouraged¡± that 바카라사이트 research councils will be reviewing opportunities for interdisciplinary research. ¡°Some of 바카라사이트 most interesting new opportunities can arise in 바카라사이트se boundary areas,¡± she added.
