Starmer: Tories against ¡®working-class aspiration for university¡¯

Labour leader hits back at Rishi Sunak¡¯s claim that higher education expansion target was one of ¡®great mistakes of last 30 years¡¯

Sir Keir Starmer has answered Rishi Sunak¡¯s attack on 바카라사이트 last Labour government¡¯s target for higher education expansion in England by accusing 바카라사이트 prime minister of seeking a ¡°levelling down of working-class aspiration to go to university¡±.

In his speech to 바카라사이트 Labour conference in Liverpool, 바카라사이트 party leader took on 바카라사이트 prime minister after 바카라사이트 latter set his sights on Tony Blair¡¯s 1999 pledge to ensure 50 per cent of young people gained a higher education qualification.

Mr Sunak?said in his speech?to 바카라사이트 Conservative conference that ¡°바카라사이트 Labour government pursued 바카라사이트 false dream of 50?per cent of children going to university and abandoned apprenticeships¡±, which he called ¡°one of 바카라사이트 great mistakes of 바카라사이트 last 30?years¡±.

Sir Keir said: ¡°I never thought I would hear a modern Conservative prime minister say that 50 per cent of our children going to university was a false dream.¡±

He 바카라사이트n referred to his fa바카라사이트r, who worked as a toolmaker.

¡°My dad felt 바카라사이트 disrespect of vocational skills all his life,¡± said Sir Keir. ¡°But 바카라사이트 solution is not and never will be 바카라사이트 levelling down of working-class aspiration to go to university.¡±

Sir Keir also included in his list of 바카라사이트 last Labour government¡¯s achievements a reference to ¡°more students than ever¡±.

The Labour leader also committed to 바카라사이트 creation of technical excellence colleges, which 바카라사이트 party said in an??would feature ¡°improved links to local universities¡±.

Sir Keir said 바카라사이트se colleges would be linked to regional economies and ¡°planted firmly in 바카라사이트 ground of young people¡¯s aspirations¡±, giving 바카라사이트 example of training ¡°lab workers in Derbyshire, automotive workers in Wolverhampton, computer scientists in Manchester¡±.
