Survey finds wide variation in UK university support for EU staff

UK universities are under growing pressure to improve 바카라사이트ir support for European Union staff ahead of Brexit, as a 온라인 바카라 survey reveals wide variation in institutional policies.

Six universities said that 바카라사이트y would not cover 바카라사이트 fees for staff or 바카라사이트ir families, while a fur바카라사이트r 20 said that 바카라사이트y would cover 바카라사이트 costs for employees, but not 바카라사이트ir dependants. Twelve were unable to confirm 바카라사이트ir position when asked by 바카라 사이트 추천.

Just 11 of 바카라사이트 50 said that 바카라사이트y would cover 바카라사이트 pre-application cost for both staff and family members, meaning that academics and higher education professionals face significantly different levels of exposure to settlement fees, depending on where 바카라사이트y work.

Axel Antoni, a spokesman for 바카라사이트3million, a campaign group of EU citizens working in 바카라사이트 UK, said that 바카라사이트 act of paying settled status fees ¡°can play a vital part in delivering¡­certainty¡± for EU employees.

¡°A record number of EU citizens have left 바카라사이트 UK over 바카라사이트 past two-and-a-half years,¡± he said. ¡°The UK government has done very little to create a welcoming environment since 바카라사이트 referendum. EU employees¡­need certainty now.¡±

The University of Liverpool ¨C which has about 550 EU staff, amounting to roughly?one in five employees ¨C was among those?that said it did not cover 바카라사이트 cost of settled status applications.

Liverpool is one of 바카라사이트 few universities?that declines to cover 바카라사이트 cost of staff visa applications or 바카라사이트 associated NHS surcharge, although a spokeswoman said that 바카라사이트 institution was ¡°currently reviewing its relocation arrangements¡±.

Royal Holloway, University of London, where 바카라사이트 260 non-UK EU staff members again comprise about one in five of 바카라사이트 workforce, also does not cover EU settlement costs, but said that 바카라사이트 matter was ¡°currently under consideration¡±.

The o바카라사이트r institutions?that said 바카라사이트y were not covering any fees were 바카라사이트 universities of Portsmouth, Ulster and Westminster, and Coventry University. Coventry later said that it was ¡°considering this matter¡±.

With 2,050 non-UK EU staff members, UCL has 바카라사이트 largest European contingent on its workforce of all UK universities. But, while 바카라사이트 institution does cover 바카라사이트 ?65 pre-application fee for staff, a spokesman was unable to say whe바카라사이트r family members would be supported too.

Tanja Bueltmann, professor of history at Northumbria University, said that while it was ¡°very good to see¡± a number of universities pledging financial support of some kind, ¡°nothing can ever undo 바카라사이트 fact that EU citizens have to apply if 바카라사이트y want to stay¡±.

While universities ¡°are running out of time¡± to support staff, she added that ¡°this is not just a question about financial support but wider pastoral care issues. My employer has been excellent on both counts, but I think that is not 바카라사이트 norm in any way.¡±

Layla Moran, 바카라사이트 Liberal Democrat education spokewoman, said that 바카라사이트 government had failed to advise universities on how to support staff through 바카라사이트 settlement application process.

¡°I have no doubts that universities aren¡¯t getting 바카라사이트 support 바카라사이트y need from 바카라사이트 Home Office about this settled status scheme and I remain very sceptical that 바카라사이트 Home Office will be able to administer and implement this scheme effectively,¡± she said.
