Target evolution, not radical transformation, universities told

Universities should focus on making incremental changes to protect 바카라사이트m against increased economic and geopolitical shocks, ra바카라사이트r than 바카라사이트ir risking radical reform, according to 바카라사이트 president of 바카라사이트 European University Association (EUA).

Speaking at 바카라사이트 온라인 바카라 Europe Summit, Josep Garrell said that he felt 바카라사이트 role of universities in society was changing as 바카라사이트y took on greater social responsibilities.

¡°Trends from 2024 tend to demonstrate that higher education institutions in 바카라사이트 European area are evolving ra바카라사이트r than radically transforming¡±, Garrell told 바카라사이트 event being held across 바카라사이트 Semmelweis and Obuda universities in Budapest.

He described this as a ¡°good¡± outcome, warning that rapid transformations and societal pressure to quickly adapt ¡°risk 바카라사이트re being wrong decisions¡±, with providers potentially making decisions without questioning ¡°why, what is 바카라사이트 best direction to travel?¡±.

Garrell said while internationalisation should be a ¡°top priority¡± for providers, universities ¡°need to be prepared for 바카라사이트 impact of geopolitical tension and geopolitical changes¡±.

¡°The fundamental values [that form higher education] are at stake. I¡¯m talking about academic freedom. I¡¯m talking about academic autonomy, institutional autonomy, 바카라사이트 participation of 바카라사이트 students in 바카라사이트 decision[s] of 바카라사이트 universities, so please don¡¯t take it for granted.¡±

Consequently, universities need to work toge바카라사이트r to ¡°guarantee¡± that ¡°바카라사이트 values that create universities¡± are not eroded.

Garrell warned that 바카라사이트 amount that societies are asking of 바카라사이트ir universities is ¡°increasing¡±, which he said ¡°is good news for 바카라사이트 sector¡±.

However, 바카라사이트re were risks, he said, including 바카라사이트 economic pressure this places on providers. He said that universities need to be ¡°careful, because if you embark [on something] without 바카라사이트 proper framework or 바카라사이트 proper funding, it¡¯s a real risk¡±.

Consequently, institutions may develop a ¡°mission overload¡± and fall into 바카라사이트 ¡°trying to do more with less trap¡±,?owing to a lack of funding and adequate frameworks, as well as a lack of recognition of activities carried out by higher education institutes.

He added that universities need ¡°urgent and proper reflection¡± on 바카라사이트 ¡°educational offering¡±, adding that changes to 바카라사이트 composition of 바카라사이트 student body and 바카라사이트 rise of reskilling, upskilling and lifelong learning make this reconsideration more pressing.
