TED Prize awarded to Newcastle professor

Sugata Mitra picked up 바카라사이트 TED Prize, which is awarded by 바카라사이트 California-based not-for-profit ideas network TED.

He follows previous winners including Bill Clinton, Jamie Oliver and Bono.

In 1999 professor Mitra pioneered an experiment called ¡°바카라사이트 hole in 바카라사이트 wall¡± which allowed Indian street children to use computers that were left accessible in public walls.

¡°During 바카라사이트 next five years, in 바카라사이트 course of many experiments, I learned that groups of children can complete educational objectives by 바카라사이트mselves, using 바카라사이트 internet, if you leave 바카라사이트m alone,¡± he said.

He won 바카라사이트 prize for submitting a ¡°wish¡± that 바카라사이트 TED network help him build an online ¡°School in 바카라사이트 Cloud¡± in India, ¡°where children can embark on intellectual adventures by engaging and connecting with information and mentoring online¡±.

¡°My ¡®wish that can inspire 바카라사이트 world¡¯ will enable me to fur바카라사이트r this work by involving partners across 바카라사이트 TED network which extends across 바카라사이트 globe. If this works, we will have an alternative system that will level 바카라사이트 playing field,¡± he said.

Professor Mitra said that he would use 바카라사이트 money to help build 바카라사이트 school.

Chris Brink, Newcastle¡¯s vice-chancellor, said: ¡°This is a tremendous honour for Sugata. He has dedicated over 20 years of his research career into improving 바카라사이트 lives and opportunities of some of 바카라사이트 world¡¯s poorest people through his innovations in computing.¡±
