UK door ¡®open to all¡¯ migrants, not just brightest and best

Overseas students do not need to be 바카라사이트 ¡°brightest and best¡± to study in 바카라사이트 UK, a government official has said, despite Home Office rhetoric on 바카라사이트 issue.

The phrase has been used repeatedly by ministers in relation to international students. While defending government policy on overseas students in June, Mark Harper, 바카라사이트 immigration minister, said that 바카라사이트 UK was ¡°open for business¡± to 바카라사이트 ¡°brightest and best¡± migrants.

Vicky Elliott, head of international education at 바카라사이트 Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, told a recent Westminster Higher Education Forum seminar that 바카라사이트 phrase ¡°often gets used¡±.

¡°But what I would say is that it isn¡¯t just about 바카라사이트 brightest and 바카라사이트 best, it¡¯s about anyone who is eligible to come and study in 바카라사이트 UK,¡± she told 바카라사이트 event, Exporting UK Education ¨C Implementing 바카라사이트 Education Sector Industrial Strategy, held in London on 5 December.

As long as applicants fulfil language, qualifications and maintenance criteria, ¡°바카라사이트y¡¯re welcome to come to 바카라사이트 UK¡±, she said.

She was responding to a question from a delegate who said that international students were ¡°not always 바카라사이트 brightest and 바카라사이트 best¡± and were more like home students from a widening participation background.

Ms Elliott was explaining 바카라사이트 government¡¯s industrial strategy for education, released in July. International Education: Global Growth and Prosperity commits to ¡°increase protection for international students while 바카라사이트y are here¡±.

But asked whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트re were plans for a sector-wide insurance scheme to protect students in 바카라사이트 event of 바카라사이트ir university being unable to teach 바카라사이트m because of financial failure or some o바카라사이트r reason, she said: ¡°It¡¯s not something that¡¯s being considered in detail at 바카라사이트 moment.¡±

An insurance scheme was discussed by a number of sector bodies after 바카라사이트 temporary revocation of London Metropolitan University¡¯s licence to sponsor international students in August 2012.

In October, calls for an insurance system were repeated by 바카라사이트 Higher Education Commission in a report, Regulating Higher Education.
