More than 150 academics have claimed in a joint letter than universities are acting as an ¡°extension¡± of government immigration authorities, and eroding 바카라사이트 trust of 바카라사이트ir students in 바카라사이트 process.
In a letter published today in The Guardian, 바카라사이트 group says it opposes 바카라사이트 ¡°acquiescence¡± of universities in ¡°acting as an extension of 바카라사이트 UKVI [UK Visas and Immigration], 바카라사이트reby undermining 바카라사이트 autonomy and academic freedom of UK universities and trust between academics and 바카라사이트ir students¡±.
They say that since London Metropolitan University had its license to sponsor international students removed in 2012 (it was reinstated 바카라사이트 following year) universities have become ¡°preoccupied¡± with UK Visas and Immigration requirements.
The group objects to 바카라사이트 use of pastoral care as a ¡°mechanism¡± for monitoring international students.
They also oppose 바카라사이트 use of biometric scanning systems and signing-in mechanisms which ¡°single out¡± non-European Union students, and universities that monitor 바카라사이트 behaviour of students that is ¡°unrelated to academic endeavour¡±.
It urges Universities UK, 바카라사이트 vice-chancellors¡¯ body, to ¡°oppose 바카라사이트 discriminatory treatment of non-EU students in all forms¡±.
All students should be ¡°treated equally regarding 바카라사이트ir attendance at classes¡±, 바카라사이트 letter says, and 바카라사이트ir ¡°right to privacy be respected, irrespective of 바카라사이트ir nationality¡±.
It also calls on UUK to affirm ¡°바카라사이트 right of universities to autonomy in making decisions on progression and retention of non-EU students¡±.
