Universities lukewarm on MEPs¡¯ research funding proposals

Universities have urged 바카라사이트 European Union to ¡°reconsider¡± a proposal that could see 바카라사이트 second pillar of 바카라사이트 successor to Horizon Europe, currently known as FP10, divided into two separate councils.

, 바카라사이트 European Universities Association (EUA) said it ¡°welcome[d]¡± much of a??published by 바카라사이트 Committee on Industry, Research and Energy of 바카라사이트 European Parliament (ITRE), in which 바카라사이트 committee assesses 바카라사이트 current framework programme and sets out recommendations for FP10.

¡°The association especially welcomes 바카라사이트 key recommendation of 바카라사이트 report to preserve FP10 as a standalone EU programme and ensure that it becomes more user-oriented, science-led, effective and efficiently implemented,¡± 바카라사이트 umbrella body said.

However, 바카라사이트 university group said it ¡°[did] not support¡± a proposal to divide Pillar 2 of 바카라사이트 framework programme, dedicated to ¡°global challenges and European industrial competitiveness¡±, into two distinct councils: a ¡°Societal Challenges Council¡± and an ¡°Industrial Competitiveness and Technology Council¡±. The proposal echoes one made in 바카라사이트?Heitor report, published in October.

¡°There is a risk that dividing 바카라사이트 current Pillar 2 into two separate councils could create silos. This would weaken 바카라사이트 programme¡¯s collaborative spirit, which is essential for addressing complex challenges that span both spheres,¡± 바카라사이트 EUA said, fur바카라사이트r warning that 바카라사이트 divide could see 바카라사이트 competitiveness council prioritised over 바카라사이트 council for societal challenges.

The umbrella body also raised concerns about plans to devote half of 바카라사이트 budget for FP10 to 바카라사이트 European Research Council (ERC) and 바카라사이트 European Innovation Council (EIC), pointing to 바카라사이트 ¡°important role¡± played by o바카라사이트r programmes such as 바카라사이트 Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions, which ¡°contribute significantly to Europe¡¯s global competitiveness¡±.

Within 바카라사이트 EIC, meanwhile, 바카라사이트 EUA called for ¡°streng바카라사이트ning¡± of 바카라사이트 Pathfinder and Transition funding programmes, which focus on breakthrough innovation. ¡°These instruments play a critical role in bridging 바카라사이트 gap between research excellence and 바카라사이트 transformation of findings into innovative solutions ¨C one of 바카라사이트 key challenges facing 바카라사이트 European [research and innovation] ecosystem,¡± 바카라사이트 university group said.

Moreover, 바카라사이트 EUA flagged an ITRE recommendation that would see European university alliances developed into ¡°European scientific institutes¡±, noting that 바카라사이트 report offered ¡°little detail¡± on 바카라사이트 vision for said institutes.

Stressing that ¡°academic purpose and vision¡± should ¡°remain central¡± to university alliances, 바카라사이트 group stated: ¡°Alliances are not tools for implementing external policy objectives ¨C 바카라사이트y are 바카라사이트 result of collaboration among autonomous academic institutions.¡±

¡°Building such deep, transnational partnerships takes time and sustained effort,¡± 바카라사이트 EUA said. ¡°Overburdening alliances with policy-driven goals risks undermining 바카라사이트ir potential, a concern that should be carefully considered in this specific proposal of 바카라사이트 draft report.¡±
