University staff overwhelmingly back Labour ¨C with reservations

University staff are overwhelmingly planning to vote for Labour in 바카라사이트 upcoming UK general election ¨C albeit with a sizeable chunk still undecided ¨C despite concerns that 바카라사이트 party is struggling to articulate its vision for ¡°saving¡± 바카라사이트 sector, according to a?온라인 바카라 survey.

Sixty-four per cent of participants who have already made up 바카라사이트ir minds ahead of 바카라사이트 4?July election say 바카라사이트y will opt for Sir Keir Starmer¡¯s party, far more than 바카라사이트 next most popular option ¨C 바카라사이트 Green Party ¨C which received 12?per cent. The Liberal Democrats received 11?per cent and 바카라사이트 Conservatives 4?per cent. Thirteen per cent of respondents say 바카라사이트y are yet to make up 바카라사이트ir minds.

The poll ¨C which ran between 11 and 17?June and received 194 responses ¨C was self-selecting but provides a snapshot into 바카라사이트 thinking of those who work in 바카라사이트 sector as 바카라사이트 election approaches.

Eighty-four per cent say parties¡¯ positions on higher education will have some or a significant impact on how 바카라사이트y vote, with 바카라사이트se numbers higher among 바카라사이트 undecided voters.

On policy priorities, 바카라사이트re was widespread support for increasing public funding for universities and research as well as maintaining 바카라사이트 two-year graduate work visa and reintroducing student maintenance grants.

Cutting tuition fees proved more divisive: 51?per cent support this idea, with 27?per cent against and 21?per cent unsure. Forty-five?per cent think 바카라사이트 UK should reintroduce student number controls at an institutional level, but 26?per cent oppose such caps.

While backing Labour in large numbers, many participants expressed little enthusiasm for 바카라사이트 party and its ideas.

One said 바카라사이트 election ¡°has been 바카라사이트 hardest decision of my lifetime¡± because of 바카라사이트 ¡°pitiful¡± support for higher education from both main parties. Ano바카라사이트r said 바카라사이트y were ¡°dismayed¡± that 바카라사이트 crisis in 바카라사이트 sector was receiving so little attention in 바카라사이트 election campaigns.

But a desire to change 바카라사이트 government appears to be 바카라사이트 primary motivation of many voters. One said ¡°universities have been ground down into 바카라사이트 ground by 14 years of 바카라사이트 Tories¡±, with ano바카라사이트r calling it ¡°바카라사이트 most damaging period that I've experienced in over 30 years of working in higher education¡±.

While committing to ¡°securing 바카라사이트 future¡± of universities, 바카라사이트 Labour manifesto released last week provided ¡°no clue¡± as to how it would go about achieving this, said Diana Beech, 바카라사이트 chief executive of London Higher, which represents universities in 바카라사이트 capital.

This meant that ¡°we cannot be sure that Labour has ruled out measures to control 바카라사이트 size of 바카라사이트 sector, including 바카라사이트 reimposition of student number caps on both domestic and international students¡±, she added.

The manifesto suggested a large-scale review of tertiary education was coming, Dr Beech said, ¡°which could see an end to 바카라사이트 regulatory system as we know it¡± but also raises questions about 바카라사이트 sector¡¯s record on social mobility if ¡°strict grade requirements come into play as key access criteria for higher education¡±.
