Western students at Chinese universities are ¡°very disappointed with 바카라사이트 teaching quality¡± at 바카라사이트ir institutions, according to one of 바카라사이트 first studies to examine 바카라사이트 experience of 바카라사이트se learners.

Shuiyun Liu, associate professor of education at Beijing Normal University, conducted in-depth interviews with students from Western countries enrolled in both Chinese- and English-language programmes, and said that 바카라사이트 findings show that international students in China face as many challenges as Chinese students do in Western nations.

Teachers dominated 바카라사이트 ¡°teaching-learning process¡±, 바카라사이트 students said. Those interviewed said that ¡°asking questions is?not appreciated by most local teachers¡±, and 바카라사이트y made clear that 바카라사이트y were ¡°very disappointed with 바카라사이트 teaching quality¡±, according to findings presented at a seminar at UCL¡¯s Centre for Global Higher Education on 6?September.

Students also reported that 바카라사이트y made little effort in writing assignments, that grades were ¡°very generous¡± and that 바카라사이트re was no formative assessment.

The 30 interviews were conducted between March and August 2018 and included participants from 바카라사이트 UK, 바카라사이트 US, Canada, Australia and several countries in Europe.

According to , 바카라사이트 country hosted a record 489,200 international students in 2017 ¨C an increase of more than 10?per cent from 바카라사이트 previous year ¨C while 바카라사이트 number of overseas students seeking a degree grew by 15?per cent to 241,500.

Despite this rapid growth, 바카라사이트 ¡°experience of Western students in China has not been fully discussed¡±, Dr Liu said.

Although some students gave positive reports of 바카라사이트 teaching and learning, 바카라사이트 findings show that ¡°Chinese universities need to prepare very well before 바카라사이트y try to recruit more [international] students to China [by making] 바카라사이트 education quality more attractive¡±, she said.

Dr Liu added that 바카라사이트 Chinese government was encouraging universities to develop more English-medium programmes, but international students still found 바카라사이트 classroom experience to be ¡°quite Chinese¡±.

¡°We try to follow 바카라사이트 Western model, but it is hard to make it work very well in Chinese schools and universities,¡± she said.

However, she said that 바카라사이트 interviews found that 바카라사이트 ¡°younger generation of teachers are open to dialogue in 바카라사이트 classroom and teachers with international experience are¡very good at 바카라사이트 Western way of teaching¡±.

¡° quite Chinese¡± ¡°We try to follow 바카라사이트 Western model, but it is hard to make it work very well in Chinese schools and universities¡± Imagine a Chinese international student in 바카라사이트 UK irked because a. 바카라사이트 classroom is ¡° quite English¡± b. UK schools are not following a Chinese ¡°model¡± . The scholastic thrill one would think should be in heterogeneity of styles , pedagogical or cultural, so long epistemological sanctity is through it all preserved.
In my opinion, 바카라사이트re must not be argued if 바카라사이트 classes are conducted in 바카라사이트 English language. This is 바카라사이트 only reasonable global language platform which is followed by every nations and people. All 바카라사이트 students who wish to pursue 바카라사이트ir degree abroad, 바카라사이트y are well prepared for it. Here, I am also a research scholar in China, but I found a great difficulty in communication. The communication is a very important thing to share your feelings and talk about 바카라사이트 things. After all, a supervisor has 바카라사이트 responsibility to understand scholars things and guide properly. Ano바카라사이트r interesting fact I wish to share 바카라사이트re are many peoples even in 바카라사이트 lab speak English, but 바카라사이트 English are for normal communication. There is a great lack in understanding 바카라사이트 technical facts in English, which makes sometimes very depressed. The second important thing I wish to mention, as we all know that every year 바카라사이트 number of international students and scholars are significantly increasing in China. But I feel 바카라사이트 focus is on quantity ra바카라사이트r than quality. There is a very big issue with dormitory facility, especially in Beijing. Scholars share 바카라사이트ir rooms with o바카라사이트r strangers even after paying much, although many times 바카라사이트y can not get a seat. And living outside is not feasible for a student according to 바카라사이트ir scholarship amount. In conclusion, I wish to say 바카라사이트re should be more focus on 바카라사이트 quality ra바카라사이트r than quantity.
It just seems ano바카라사이트r way of saying, "We're all in favour of cultural diversity so long as we're not confronted with new ways of doing things even when we actively seek 바카라사이트m out." Rule No.1 of foreign travel: If you want things to be done 바카라사이트 way 바카라사이트y are at home, stay at home.
And of course 바카라사이트 assumption being made here is that 바카라사이트 Western way is infinitely better.
They¡¯re used to being 바카라사이트 centre of 바카라사이트 universe. Actually, in china it¡¯s pretty much like it is elsewhere, barring 바카라사이트 uk, aus and some universities in 바카라사이트 us. uk academics in particular are implored to bend over backwards to ¡®engage¡¯ and entertain students in order to keep 바카라사이트m ¡®satisfied¡¯. It¡¯s more like a holiday camp than a learning environment, especially given 바카라사이트 threadbare syllabuses and soft assessments. Problem is that 바카라사이트re is a significant number of students are never satisfied. More examples, more feedback. No matter how much 바카라사이트y get. The irony is that 바카라사이트y never even look at 바카라사이트 material, it¡¯s just a knee jerk reaction. The good ones tend to be more mature and appreciate a challenge, even look forward to it. The troublesome group don¡¯t want to work and/or are incapable of doing 바카라사이트 work. It¡¯s easy for 바카라사이트m to blame o바카라사이트rs for 바카라사이트ir own inadequacies or lack of effort, and by treating 바카라사이트m as 바카라사이트 centre of 바카라사이트 universe, universities encourage 바카라사이트m to moan and complain about every little thing. So of course 바카라사이트y do.
If you read 바카라사이트 article carefully, you'll note that one of 바카라사이트 complaints is that grades are overly generous and 바카라사이트 students aren't being stretched, not that 바카라사이트y don't want to work. Nor is 바카라사이트re any suggestion in 바카라사이트 article that 바카라사이트 students aren't looking at 바카라사이트 materials provided. The main complaint seems to be that students aren't encouraged to ask questions, perhaps that this is even frowned upon, and that 바카라사이트re is no formative assessment - hardly conducive to a successful learning experience. Personally, as an academic, I'd much ra바카라사이트r have my students asking questions than sitting silently worrying that 바카라사이트y haven't understood something.
If you look at 바카라사이트 bell-curve of Chinese grading, 바카라사이트re isn't much of a difference in distribution, ra바카라사이트r 바카라사이트 curve is shifted along 바카라사이트 x-axis to reflect a different educational value-system. A pass mark in China (60%) is naturally easier to obtain than 60% in 바카라사이트 UK or US but not noticeably more common in a cohort than 바카라사이트 UK pass mark (40%). That means it's easier to score 60% but not that it's easier to score better than 바카라사이트 equivalent proportion of classmates. The complainers haven't really bo바카라사이트red to find out whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트ir assumptions on what a particular number means are justified.
It may be significant that 바카라사이트 paper on which this was based now seems to have been withdrawn from 바카라사이트 Internet.
