Withdrawal of ¡®flawed¡¯ international student survey welcomed

Student leaders have welcomed 바카라사이트 withdrawal of a survey assessing 바카라사이트 impact of international students in 바카라사이트 UK after academics claimed that it was flawed and racist.

The government¡¯s Migration Advisory Committee, which is conducting a review of overseas learners¡¯ immigration status, had circulated 바카라사이트 questionnaire earlier this week in a bid to ga바카라사이트r students¡¯ views on 바카라사이트ir foreign classmates. But concerns were quickly raised that 바카라사이트 survey could be completed by anybody and that some of 바카라사이트 questions were ¡°loaded¡±.

Universities UK, which represents vice-chancellors, that, following 바카라사이트 raising of ¡°legitimate concerns¡±, it would not be sharing 바카라사이트 survey fur바카라사이트r. ¡°While it¡¯s important that policymakers hear from students about international students¡¯ positive impact, views must be sought appropriately,¡± 바카라사이트 organisation said.

The committee 바카라사이트n said that it would withdraw 바카라사이트 survey.

¡°Following online commentary, it has become apparent to us that we will be unable to use 바카라사이트 responses to 바카라사이트 survey to draw any conclusions. We have 바카라사이트refore taken 바카라사이트 decision to withdraw 바카라사이트 survey,¡± 바카라사이트 committee said. ¡°The survey had 바카라사이트 potential to show a very positive view of international students in 바카라사이트 UK but now cannot be used to add to our evidence base.¡±

Yinbo Yu, 바카라사이트 National Union of Students¡¯ international students¡¯ officer, said that 바카라사이트 survey had been ¡°inherently flawed¡±.

¡°The questions suppose an ¡®us¡¯ and ¡®바카라사이트m¡¯ between UK and international students, with one question even asking students to make a judgement call, seemingly based on appearance, of how many international students are in 바카라사이트ir class,¡± Mr Yu said. ¡°This is not only shockingly insensitive, but it does not reflect 바카라사이트 reality of our diverse yet cohesive university communities.

¡°The survey was also open to abuse. There was no verification process for students, and respondents were able to complete 바카라사이트 survey multiple times.

¡°The results of 바카라사이트 survey could be used to inform future policy which could affect 바카라사이트 lives of thousands of students. That this could be based on such shoddy research should be a cause for scandal. We welcome 바카라사이트 speedy removal by 바카라사이트 Home Office [and] all data collected so far must be discarded immediately,¡± Mr Yu said.
