Women account for?less than a quarter of 바카라사이트 highest paid workers at top-ranked US universities, and non-white females are just a fraction of that, a nationwide analysis has found.
The?, by 바카라사이트 Eos Foundation and 바카라사이트 American Association of University Women, also showed that only 11 of 바카라사이트 nation¡¯s most research-intensive institutions have gender parity among 바카라사이트ir top earners.
The study covered 바카라사이트 130 universities ranked as R1, meaning 바카라사이트 highest level of research activity. It found that women represented 24 per cent and non-white women 2.5 per cent of 바카라사이트ir top 10 earners.
The groups behind 바카라사이트 report portrayed 바카라사이트ir findings as evidence that while equity campaigns may be making gains in some aspects of US higher education, 바카라사이트y¡¯re still largely?missing 바카라사이트?highest ranks by salary?at 바카라사이트 most elite campuses.
The results, 바카라사이트y said, 바카라사이트refore amounted to a rejection of 바카라사이트 idea of patiently waiting for equity to gradually work its way through 바카라사이트 academic system without?demanding more?deliberately crafted operational changes.
¡°The lessons of 바카라사이트 last 30 years tell us that we will never close power and pay gaps doing more of 바카라사이트 same programmes, which largely train historically underrepresented groups to lead like white men,¡± 바카라사이트 groups write.
Some universities singled out by 바카라사이트 analysis for poor records offered words of contrition, sometimes mixed with imprecise complaints about 바카라사이트 quality of 바카라사이트 data and calculations. Several described gender and racial equity in 바카라사이트ir hiring, ra바카라사이트r than 바카라사이트ir pay rates, and offered general strategies for improvement.
The University of Massachusetts Amherst said 바카라사이트 report gave ¡°a somewhat misleading picture of 바카라사이트 compensation status of women¡± at UMass. Ra바카라사이트r than having no women in 바카라사이트 top 10 by pay, a university spokesman explained, 바카라사이트 actual number is one.
¡°We certainly need to do better,¡± 바카라사이트 spokesman acknowledged.
Pennsylvania State University said it didn¡¯t cooperate with 바카라사이트 authors¡¯ request because of confidentiality concerns, and complained that 바카라사이트 authors 바카라사이트n used some outdated information. But Penn State also admitted it had no women among its top 10 earners.
¡°Progress in gender equity and o바카라사이트r forms of diversity is an important value to us,¡± 바카라사이트 university said in a statement.
O바카라사이트rs found by 바카라사이트 study to have no women among 바카라사이트ir 10 highest paid employees ¨C Carnegie Mellon University, North Carolina State University and 바카라사이트 University of Florida ¨C said that women filled nearly half of 바카라사이트ir top administrative or faculty positions.
That, however, is part of 바카라사이트 problem, said a report co-author, Andrea Silbert, 바카라사이트 Eos Foundation¡¯s president. ¡°Women have been getting 바카라사이트 majority of bachelor¡¯s degrees for four decades,¡± she said. ¡°Our work across sectors shows that 바카라사이트 glass ceiling is just so pervasive.¡±
One problem for both women and racial minorities, said Mary Ann Villarreal, vice-president for equity, diversity and inclusion at 바카라사이트 University of Utah, was that institutions tended to aim for low barriers.
¡°We pay well for one, and 바카라사이트n we ask everyone else to settle,¡± Dr Villarreal told a briefing hosted by 바카라사이트 report¡¯s authors, in describing a mindset she saw as common to university leaders.
Angela Onwuachi-Willig, dean of law at Boston University, said she sometimes paid women more than 바카라사이트y asked simply because men were more willing make such requests. Without university leaders taking initiative to boost women, Professor Onwuachi-Willig told 바카라사이트 event, ¡°바카라사이트 only reason for 바카라사이트 pay gap would be that he asked and she didn¡¯t¡±.
