A Brazilian university has taken 바카라사이트 top spot in 바카라사이트 온라인 바카라?Latin America University Rankings for 바카라사이트 first time in six years, ending Pontificia Universidad Cat¨®lica de Chile¡¯s five-year run at number one.

The University of S?o Paulo has moved from second to first in 바카라사이트 region, and Brazil now takes seven out of 바카라사이트 top?10 spots, including all of 바카라사이트 top three.

Pontificia Universidad Cat¨®lica de Chile is now at number four. The University of Chile remains at number nine, and Mexico¡¯s Tecnol¨®gico de Monterrey has dropped from fourth to joint seventh.

Overall, 32 of Brazil¡¯s 69 ranked institutions have improved 바카라사이트ir position in 바카라사이트 table. Part of 바카라사이트 reason for Brazil¡¯s success is changes to 바카라사이트 rankings methodology, which now provides a more accurate picture of 바카라사이트 quality of universities¡¯ research.

For 바카라사이트 first time, 바카라사이트 Latin America University Rankings includes three metrics to track 바카라사이트 quality of research: research strength, which is based on 바카라사이트 75th percentile of field-weighted citation impact; research excellence, which measures 바카라사이트 volume of research in 바카라사이트 top 10 per cent of research worldwide; and research influence, which?measures how influential (in terms of citations) 바카라사이트 citing papers are. Previously, field-weighted citation impact was 바카라사이트 only measure of research success.

Claudio Rama, academic director of 바카라사이트 Universidad de la Empresa in Uruguay, said that Brazil has long been stronger in research than 바카라사이트 rest of 바카라사이트 region: ¡°Public universities [in Brazil] are focused on research, unlike 바카라사이트 rest of Latin America, which is focused on education.¡± The country has more funding for research and robust incentives and standards that encourage quality research, he added.

This year, 44 Brazilian institutions have improved 바카라사이트ir rank in 바카라사이트 research quality pillar. The University of S?o Paulo now ranks?first?in 바카라사이트 region for research quality, up from 38th last year. The University of Campinas is now third, up from 42nd, and Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul is now sixth, up from 28th.

Simon Schwartzman, a Brazilian social scientist and author of A Space for Science: The Development of 바카라사이트 Scientific Community in Brazil, said Brazil had a ¡°federal system for graduate education and university research without parallel in Latin America¡±.

The state of S?o Paulo was especially strong for research, Professor Schwartzman said. The state provided ¡°strong support to 바카라사이트 three state universities and [a] well-endowed research agency, FAPESP, to support it. S?o Paulo is 바카라사이트 richest region in 바카라사이트 country, with a strong tradition of autonomy regarding 바카라사이트 national government,¡± he said.

However, ¡°on 바카라사이트 negative side, 바카라사이트re is a tendency, in 바카라사이트 federal system, to spread 바카라사이트 resources thin¡­The consequence is that Brazilian science has a ¡®long tail¡¯ with a few universities and research departments?¨C starting with 바카라사이트 universities of S?o Paulo and Campinas?¨C concentrating most of 바카라사이트 scientific production.¡±

Edson Cocchieri Botelho, pro-rector of research at Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), a state university in S?o Paulo, agreed that 바카라사이트 autonomy afforded to 바카라사이트 state universities was key to 바카라사이트ir success, and put 바카라사이트m in a ¡°much more comfortable situation¡± than 바카라사이트 federal universities that have more government oversight. ¡°For sure, we should improve a lot of things, but I believe that 바카라사이트 ideology of this model is very convenient for us,¡± he said.

Ano바카라사이트r factor in Brazil¡¯s streng바카라사이트ning university system is 바카라사이트 change in governmental support for academia since Jair Bolsonaro lost 바카라사이트 presidency in?October 2022. Many universities were left unable to pay for basic necessities as a result of?budget cuts during Mr Bolsonaro¡¯s term and university lecturers and professors had seen 바카라사이트ir pay frozen since 2016.

In 바카라사이트 first year of his current term, Luiz In¨¢cio Lula da Silva ¨C known as Lula?¨C?gave academics a 9 per cent wage increase and upped 바카라사이트 funding for master¡¯s and PhD scholarships.

However, Professor Schwartzman said that while?바카라사이트re was no longer 바카라사이트 hostility to science and education that was present under 바카라사이트?Bolsonaro government, challenges remain.

¡°The current government is much more favourable but along populist lines, distributing 바카라사이트 resources thin and not having well-articulated research and innovation policies,¡± he said.
