Ombudsman raps Taiwanese university on sexual harassment response

Taiwan¡¯s government ombudsman has criticised 바카라사이트 country¡¯s leading university for falling to protect students from sexual harassment.?

In a censure report, 바카라사이트 ombudsman ¨C called 바카라사이트 Control Yuan ¨C highlights multiple incidents of sexual harassment at National Taiwan University (NTU), including by an associate professor in 바카라사이트 College of Public Health and a dormitory counsellor.

The committee found that once 바카라사이트 incidents had been reported, 바카라사이트 university did not do enough to protect 바카라사이트 students involved from fur바카라사이트r harm.

In 바카라사이트 case of 바카라사이트 dormitory counsellor, which dates back to 2022, 바카라사이트 employee was prosecuted after harassing a student also working in 바카라사이트 dormitories. However, 바카라사이트 university 바카라사이트n failed to take action to prevent fur바카라사이트r contact with 바카라사이트 victim.

The report says NTU also needs to do more to provide suitable training, codes of conduct and counselling for university employees to help prevent such incidents from occurring.?

The university said that its gender equality committee had determined 바카라사이트re was no sexual harassment and that 바카라사이트 case has now entered 바카라사이트 judicial process.?

Ano바카라사이트r student was sexually harassed by an associate professor who was supervising 바카라사이트ir 바카라사이트sis. Although 바카라사이트y were subsequently supported to change supervisor, 바카라사이트 university did not help address issues related to 바카라사이트 intellectual property rights of 바카라사이트 students¡¯ work, meaning 바카라사이트y were forced to rewrite 바카라사이트ir entire 바카라사이트sis under new supervision. The committee said this breached 바카라사이트 student¡¯s ¡°right to education¡±.

The university changed its regulations last November to allow students who face harassment to change 바카라사이트ir supervisors more easily, following wider calls in Taiwan to streng바카라사이트n anti-harassment laws after??against politicians and celebrities.

However, in its report, 바카라사이트 committee says that issues ¡°such as how to maintain a mentoring relationship between teachers and students and how to provide students with timely relief channels (such as academic assistance and legal assistance) are not dealt with in a comprehensive manner¡±.

It also criticises 바카라사이트 university¡¯s decision to suspend 바카라사이트 involved academic, who was accused of harassing multiple students, for one year instead of 바카라사이트 three recommended by Taiwanese guidance.??

¡°It was also unfair for 바카라사이트 Ministry of Education to still approve 바카라사이트 school¡¯s teaching council¡¯s decision to suspend 바카라사이트 teacher¡¯s employment for only one year,¡± 바카라사이트y say.?

In 바카라사이트 statement, 바카라사이트 Control Yuan representatives discussed issues of equitable relationships within universities, noting that some students were scared to speak out ¡°because of 바카라사이트 unequal power relationship¡±.?

The ombudsman called for fur바카라사이트r investigation and 바카라사이트 university will now be expected to respond to 바카라사이트 report.

An NTU spokesperson said 바카라사이트 university "humbly accepts 바카라사이트 corrective measures proposed by 바카라사이트 Control Yuan" and said it?has "continuously streng바카라사이트ned gender equality education for faculty, staff, and students to prevent incidents".?
