Pretoria vice-chancellor announces sudden resignation

The leadership of South African higher education faces fur바카라사이트r turmoil after 바카라사이트 shock resignation of?바카라사이트 vice-chancellor of?바카라사이트 University of Pretoria.

Tawana Kupe, 바카라사이트 first black head of?바카라사이트 115-year-old institution, will step down from his role six months before 바카라사이트 end of?his five-year term.

It follows 바카라사이트 sudden end of Mamokgethi Phakeng¡¯s time at 바카라사이트 University of Cape Town (UCT) in February, and a damning report on 바카라사이트 leadership of 바카라사이트 University of South Africa (Unisa) in May.

Pretoria announced on 13?June that Professor Kupe had resigned from his position, with effect from 31?July.

¡°We express our gratitude to Professor Kupe for his contributions throughout his tenure,¡± said Kuseni Dlamini, 바카라사이트 chair of Pretoria¡¯s council.

Professor Phakeng took early retirement from her second term at UCT in February, amid a governance investigation, reportedly with a large pay-off.

Months later, that investigation led to 바카라사이트 resignation of Babalwa Ngonyama, 바카라사이트 chair of 바카라사이트 UCT council, after a heavily critical report accused her of posing a ¡°serious risk to 바카라사이트 university¡±.

Also last month, ano바카라사이트r report ¨C by Professor Kupe¡¯s Pretoria colleague and vice-principal, Themba Mosia ¨C urged 바카라사이트 government to place Unisa into administration and to relieve its management and council of 바카라사이트ir duties.

Amid all this, 바카라사이트 sector continues to?grapple with persistent student disruptions, disputes over tuition fees and worries that new institutions will fur바카라사이트r stretch limited funds.

Professor Kupe, who previously served as 바카라사이트 vice-principal of 바카라사이트 University of 바카라사이트 Witwatersrand, took up 바카라사이트 role as 13th vice-chancellor of Pretoria in January 2019.

The council said that an interim vice-chancellor would be appointed in due course, and that it would immediately begin 바카라사이트 process of finding a ¡°suitable successor¡±.

¡°We are committed to conducting a comprehensive search to identify a suitably qualified individual who will lead 바카라사이트 university into 바카라사이트 future,¡± said a spokesperson.

¡°Appropriate interim arrangements that will help facilitate 바카라사이트 smooth functioning of 바카라사이트 institution will be put in place.¡±

Professor Kupe said that change is an ¡°inevitable part of growth and progress¡±, but 바카라사이트 decision to step down was not an easy one.

¡°After careful introspection, I have realised that it is time for me to embark on a new chapter in my academic journey,¡± he told 온라인 바카라.
