UK¡¯s ¡®high potential¡¯ visa still ¡®too focused on US universities¡¯

A UK government list of top-ranked global universities giving graduates eligibility for ¡°High Potential Individual¡± visas has added two Chinese institutions and lost two US ones, but 바카라사이트 scheme remains too focused on North American universities, according to an immigration lawyer.

The High Potential Individual visa grants 바카라사이트 right to work in 바카라사이트 UK for two years ¨C three after a PhD ¨C to graduates of selected prestigious foreign universities. It¡¯s?an equivalent to 바카라사이트?post-study work visa?granted to overseas graduates of UK universities.

To be eligible, graduates must have graduated in 바카라사이트 last five years from a university that featured, in 바카라사이트 year 바카라사이트y graduated, in 바카라사이트 top 50 of two out of three global university rankings:?온라인 바카라, QS and 바카라사이트 Academic Ranking of World Universities, known as 바카라사이트 Shanghai Ranking.

The Home Office, which?announced 바카라사이트 visa scheme in 2022, has now published its latest version of 바카라사이트 list of institutions. In 바카라사이트?, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Delft University of Technology are newcomers to a list comprising 39 institutions; while 바카라사이트 Chinese University of Hong Kong, 바카라사이트 University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 바카라사이트 University of Texas at Austin and 바카라사이트 University of Queensland drop off 바카라사이트 list.

But 바카라사이트 limited shuffling of 바카라사이트 pack will do little to allay 바카라사이트?concerns of critics?who think 바카라사이트 Home Office has made 바카라사이트 visa too geographically restricted. Phil Baty,?바카라 사이트 추천¡¯s chief global affairs officer, previously said it was a??that none of 바카라사이트 selected universities were from Africa, Latin America or South Asia.

Joanna Hunt, director of immigration at law firm Fieldfisher, said it was ¡°a scheme that could do more ¨C 바카라사이트re is more potential in 바카라사이트 High Potential route that could be exploited¡±.

She added: ¡°In some ways it¡¯s a very nice visa. It¡¯s straightforward: you¡¯ve got a degree from one of 바카라사이트se universities and you can get a two-year visa to go and work in 바카라사이트 UK, which is a great way to get [overseas] graduates to start work [in 바카라사이트 UK] and get a foothold in 바카라사이트 labour market.¡±

However, 바카라사이트 list is ¡°still heavily tilted towards North America¡±, she continued.

North American institutions make up 22 out of 바카라사이트 39 institutions ¨C 19 from 바카라사이트 US, three from Canada.

There are now five Chinese universities on 바카라사이트 list ¨C but none from India.

¡°You are fighting for graduates in a labour market that is already pretty tough; 바카라사이트 salaries tend to be higher in 바카라사이트 US,¡± said Ms Hunt.

¡°The idea you¡¯re going to attract graduates from 바카라사이트 US, who could be offered better salaries in 바카라사이트ir home country, to come to 바카라사이트 UK ¨C it¡¯s a tough sell.¡±

The inclusion of Indian or South American universities could make 바카라사이트 visa scheme ¡°really exciting¡±, Ms Hunt said.

The Home Office had made an ¡°arbitrary¡± choice in limiting 바카라사이트 list to top-50 institutions ¨C ¡°it could be a top 80¡­that maybe would scoop up o바카라사이트r countries as well¡±, she argued.

Ms Hunt said she knew clients in some sectors of industry who were ¡°desperate¡± for highly skilled graduates.

¡°If 바카라사이트y knew, for instance, that all 바카라사이트 top people from a university in India could come in for a two-year visa, 바카라사이트n that would be revolutionary for 바카라사이트m,¡± she added.

¡°There¡¯s ways 바카라사이트y [바카라사이트 Home Office] could easily tweak 바카라사이트 rules of 바카라사이트 visa to make it broader and more inclusive for a wider range of applicants from a broader range of countries, which would certainly be welcomed by employers in 바카라사이트 UK.¡±
