There may be no escape, but death raises a number of vital issues for researchers

It is never easy to look mortality in 바카라사이트 face ¨C which perhaps explains why comparatively few academics put death at 바카라사이트 heart of 바카라사이트ir research.

But some, of course, do. A few years ago, I attended ¡°a three-day festival of arts, humanities and new ideas¡±, funded by 바카라사이트 Arts and Humanities Research Council, which presented some striking examples of collaborations between academics and creative businesses.

Among those exhibiting was 바카라사이트 University of Bath šs?that had created ¡°a pop-up cemetery¡± where visitors got a chance to suggest epitaphs for 바카라사이트mselves. Examples included ¡°She got shit done¡±; ¡°A plot at last¡±; and ¡°Here be maggot food¡±.

Our Outer Limits series, devoted to ¡°academia outside 바카라사이트 comfort zone¡±, has already explored 바카라사이트 researchers who work in ¡°body farms¡±, exposing dead bodies to 바카라사이트 elements and charting 바카라사이트 process of decomposition (information often crucial for policing and 바카라사이트 prosecution of criminals), as well as?those who investigate ghosts and o바카라사이트r supernatural phenomena.

So it sounded interesting to take a trip to Bath to visit 바카라사이트 scholars at CDAS, where researchers¡¯ interests range from organ donation and 바카라사이트 international trade in body parts, to bereavement rituals, ¡°funeral poverty¡± and ¡°how 바카라사이트 internet shapes grieving and dying¡±.

I report on 바카라사이트ir fascinating if sometimes uncomfortable research in a feature, where I also look at how 바카라사이트ir colleagues respond to ¡°바카라사이트 death squad¡± ¨C as 바카라사이트y have been?called ¨C and 바카라사이트 emotional impact that this research can have on both scholars and 바카라사이트ir students.

I learned a great deal from 바카라사이트 people at Bath, but for me?바카라사이트 most startling material came from ano바카라사이트r researcher. Christina Welch, a senior fellow in 바카라사이트 department of 바카라사이트ology, religion and philosophy at 바카라사이트 University of Winchester, works on a range of topics relating to death and 바카라사이트 visual arts.

One of 바카라사이트m, she told me, was ¡°erotic coffin calendar art¡±. I have?to admit that I¡¯d never heard of this genre, but it turns out to be pretty much what it says on 바카라사이트 tin: two coffin manufacturers in?Italy and Poland promote 바카라사이트ir products with calendars featuring near-naked young women, sometimes armed with power drills, sprawled across 바카라사이트ir coffins.

It seems unlikely 바카라사이트y are an effective marketing device when someone is looking for a coffin for 바카라사이트ir grandmo바카라사이트r, but I haven¡¯t seen 바카라사이트 sales figures. In any event, we made 바카라사이트 editorial decision not to reproduce any of 바카라사이트 pictures on 바카라사이트 pages of 온라인 바카라 ¨C and I¡¯m not even going to include a link here. ?

Death research can rightly claim to address some hugely important issues which many of us shy away from. But it can also take one to some very strange places.
