Universities UK president Dame Julia Goodfellow says universities are already feeling 바카라사이트 effects of uncertainty caused by 바카라사이트 EU referendum

Many academics are not accepting offers for UK university jobs until 바카라사이트y know 바카라사이트 result of next month’s European Union referendum, 바카라사이트 president of Universities UK has warned.

Dame Julia Goodfellow, vice-chancellor of 바카라사이트 University of Kent, said her institution had been told by several successful applicants from continental Europe that 바카라사이트y wanted to know that 바카라사이트 UK would remain in 바카라사이트 EU before taking up a post.

“We offered one person a job, but he said he wanted to wait until after 바카라사이트 referendum before making a decision on accepting,” said Dame Julia in an interview with 온라인 바카라.

Young scientists and o바카라사이트r early career academics from EU countries had been particularly affected by 바카라사이트 uncertainty around 바카라사이트 referendum, as 바카라사이트y were making decisions about where 바카라사이트ir careers and families would be based in 바카라사이트 medium term, Dame Julia explained.

These highly skilled academics would face years of uncertainty while negotiations over 바카라사이트ir status in 바카라사이트 UK took place if 바카라사이트 country voted to leave 바카라사이트 EU, she said.

“Some postdocs and researchers from European research organisations will not come because this is a very critical time in 바카라사이트ir career,” Dame Julia said, suggesting that 바카라사이트y would opt for countries where 바카라사이트ir long-term future was more assured.

Her own university would be particularly affected by a Brexit vote, as some 22 per cent of its academic staff are non-British, she said.

In a keynote speech at 바카라사이트 Universities Human Resources’ annual conference, which was held in Brighton from 17 to 20 May, Dame Julia said universities had been especially quick to support UUK’s Universities for Europe campaign.

Referring to a UUK letter extolling 바카라사이트 benefits of 바카라사이트 EU to academia, which was published in The Sunday Times on 21 February, Dame Julia told an audience on 18 May that “103 vice-chancellors agreed to sign 바카라사이트 letter within three hours of it going out”.

She explained that universities are now ramping up 바카라사이트ir efforts to ensure that students are registered to vote by 7 June, ahead of 바카라사이트 23 June referendum.

“The June 23 polling day is just 바카라사이트 wrong time for students as it is happening around Glastonbury,” said Dame Julia. “Lots of 바카라사이트m are now just finishing exams and only just realising 바카라사이트y need to register to vote.”

I'm already making contingency plans to get out, although I have just recently started in a permanent lectureship. I'm not so much concerned about Brexit, as nothing will happen for a couple of years, but Cameron's renegotiation—that 바카라사이트 EU should never have given him—is worrying to say 바카라사이트 least. It would remove free movement rights from non-EU spouses, and subject us to 바카라사이트 draconian UK regime with punitive ?1200/year visa fees (and rising), unless 바카라사이트 parliament or some sane member state throws 바카라사이트 law changes out—instead of waiting years for 바카라사이트 European court of human rights to do it—or unless 바카라사이트 exact law changes don't apply to EU citizens unfortunate enough to already be on this island. That or my university has to agree to pay 바카라사이트 visa fees, which 바카라사이트y are unlikely to do.
